I own a condo in one of the older buildings in Washington DC. I had a HVAC unit for 2 years with no issues. After 2 years the cooling stopped working. My building HOA highly Recommended KW Smith and Son. They came out and installed a new unit. I voiced my concern to the technician to ensure the water discharge line for the AC was exiting thr condo (as my neighbor above me had water damage from their HVAC leaking into their unit). He confirmed that he installed it correctly.

A month later my tenant noticed water damage in the unit (floors were soaked). KW Smith came out and "fixed" the problem. I then had to go through their insurance to get the floors replaced which ended up being an insert hassle. KW Smith kept refusing to disclose the contractors estimate to fix the floors while their insurance wanted me to settle on an amount. Finally I went directly to their insurance and got the correct information discovering they were trying to get me to settle to an amount $3k less than what it would cost to fix the floors

Fast forward to August of 2022. My new tenant let me know that my new floors were looking odd. After inspecting the floors I noticed that there again is water damage. After calling KW Smith they told me this is my fault because I have not maintained my unit two times a year (they never informed me of this requirement. As stated above I had a previous HVAC system in there for 2 years, never maintained with no issues. From the last interaction with KW Smith I am exhausted with how difficult they were and have decided to have my insurance deal with them. They offered to come out and look at the unit, however at this point I don't trust them and have gone with another company.

Bottom line, don't trust this company. They come across as "knowing" what they are doing but they don't. This has been a nightmare. I am pushing to have my HOA remove them from our Recommended HVAC company list. I was hesitant o make this post, but after my last interaction with them I feel that it's my duty to warn other potential customers. This has been a complete nightmare.

The best in the business. They are absolute experts, and are 100 percent trustworthy, which I really value. They don't make things up and do everything they can to keep the costs down. One time it turned out that the issue was insignificant; even though, they were there for an hour they did fixed it for no charge. It is a wonderful family establishment. I have used them for multiple properties throughout the years.

In one word: Excellence! I have a large and complicated air conditioning system with many separate units, but this has never been a challenge for KW Smith. Their employees are some of the most competent, responsive and fair people I have ever had the pleasure to work with, including the expert technician, Jay, and the outstanding Melinda and Marvett. If you want a headache free experience with a company who actually knows what they are doing, I highly recommend KW Smith.

At both sites they advised to save money others encouraged us to spend and drafted a plan to maintain our equipment that has resulted in great performance and lower costs. There is no one else I would recommend for your home or commercial HVAC needs.

In a word -- terrific!

KW Smith has come to our aid on a number of occasions -- they've come out on frigid winter evenings, weekends, and hot summer days. The result has always been outstanding service with a timely return of heat, hot water, or AC; their specialists are well trained, efficient, and charges are reasonable. We use KWS for routine maintenance, and have been very pleased with their care and thoroughness. Notable: they will call us to remind us we're due for service (wish our family doctor had a similar policy!).

Earlier this year KWS replaced a 25 year old hot water heater. While the heater was still working, we'd had problems in the past, and knew we were on borrowed time. We discussed options with Jeremy, and based on our research and his suggestions ordered a replacement. When delivery of the heater became a problem they stepped up to receive the it, and installed it a few days later. Great job, well done, very neat.

We've used KW Smith for 15 years. We'd been with another firm for many years, but questioned advice that didn't make sense. Ken checked our system, and quickly located and explained the problem: the heat exchangers (!!!!) were perforated. The company we'd been with previously recommended expensive, unrelated repairs. Lucky for us the furnaces were within the 25 year guarantee period, but because of age, parts were no longer available, instead, they replaced the entire system. Had it not been for Ken's advice we might well have wasted money on unneeded repairs, and failed to repair a very serious problem. We paid KWS for installation of the two new furnaces, but the furnaces themselves were provided by the manufacturer.

My grandmother's air conditioning went out after hours on a very hot day and K W Smith sent someone out immediately and had her a/c working again that same evening. The tech was very polite and never made her feel like it was an inconvenience. We have also used them when we had a furnace problem - a previous company had tried to take advantage of her and tell her the only option was to buy a new furnace but K W Smith was able to fix the problem very inexpensively. Being able to trust a company is a very big deal and we will never use any other company!!

Cannot say enough WONDERFUL things about Ken and his company! He installed an air conditioning system in my home for the lowest price and his service personnel are professional and pleasant to work with. In January of 2016 after the blizzard conditions hit the DC area, he responded in record time to my home to repair my heating system. No one else was even digging out of their parking lots and Ken's personnel were on site, diagnosing and repairing the system. Incredible results and response! Ken and his company are at the top of my list for HVAC!
