We have had Cates' yearly combined inspections of our furnace and AC systems for the past two years now. The AC inspection was completed by Kylar yesterday, and we are very pleased with the thoroughness and knowledgeable service he provided. Our furnace and AC systems are quite old (installed 22 years ago when we built this house), and we're trying to stretch out their functional lives as long as possible. Thus far, they work just fine, and the house is so well insulated that we place little demand on these appliances. But a regular thorough inspection by someone who knows what to evaluated and has the tools and skills to do this is very helpful for gauging how long we can expect to go before replacement. That's what we appreciate most about our service contract with Cates.
Cates has been our service people since 2010 (?) in two different homes. They have always been dependable and efficient. Highly recommended.

I use Cates for my home and also another building I'm responsible for. The technicians are knowledgeable and follow-up on any issues (a rare occurrence) quickly. I've also witnessed some pretty creative troubleshooting when unusual problems crop up. Update: During my last Spring Tune-up (2023) I left a hose and nozzle out for the tech to clean the condenser. This was not done and, to be fair may not be a part of the tune-up package. However, the technician had opened the unit up (I assume to inspect the capacitor and get current draws) and did not replace the cover properly. Neither screw was engaged and he simply kicked some mulch against the bottom to keep the panel in place. There was at least a one inch gap on each side and the cover was bent. I managed to get things back in place but should not have had to do that. Poor and lazy craftsmanship in my opinion. I'm currently responsible for 14 HVAC units on another commercial property and am not overly pleased with the current vendor but will not consider Cates because of this. I'm also not sure I'll keep Cates on contract at my home moving forward and will definitely be looking at other vendors when the time comes to replace my 21 year old HVAC system. Very disappointing after a decades long relationship.
We needed multiple repairs including the replacement of our in home water pressure regulator, faucet installations, leak repair, clogged drains, toilet repairs and outdoor faucet repair. Our plumber, Brett Freeman, was great. He works efficiently and hard. He is super nice and very good at explaining all of his work along the way. Our problems took 5 or 6 days to resolve. We are super satisfied with our plumber and his work. Next time we'll ask for him by name. Charlie and Chris
I've been a customer of Cates for over 20 years and I've never been disappointed by their work or technicians.
Did a good job but this morning the ac did not come on it was 78 in house. I thought the guy set a schedule for the thermostat. I guess not I set it to 73 and hold. I would prefer a thermostat that had a light like my old one.

Called Saturday evening 6/3 due to my A/C not working. I was told I would get a call back as soon as a technician was found. It’s now Tuesday evening 6/6 and I have never received a call back. Will not ever call them again.
I spoke with Cates and found out the sales person I was speaking with - Pat - was a mutual friend on facebook. We did speak over the weekend and he was busy with family. I saved him a trip out and sent all specs so he didn't have to drive and never came out. He is a nice guy and honest - I believe if you get him he will tell you the truth. He was not able to beat competitors and said so and I went elsewhere. I wish he had made more effort to accomodate prices but I believe Pat to be totally ethical and will tell you up front what Cates can and cannot do.
Whatever you do, don't ask for Kyle as your technician. That's because we want him all to ourselves! He is so personable, respectful, knowledgable and highly professional. The world would be a better place if there were more Kyle's in it. Cates - when it comes to bonus/raise time - put Kyle first on the list!
We had a Furnace and A/C replaced and they did a great job. They were on time and the tear out and installation caused very little disruption. They cleaned up after they were finished. Perfect. Great company!!!
We have been Cates customer for a long time. We decided it was time to replace our 20 year old A/C. Sales manager Greg was very thorough in explaining our options and gave us a nice discount for being long customer. Installers were very efficient and professional and were conscientious about keeping our house clean during their work even tho it was rainy outside. My wife and I were very satisfied with their work and with the new Carrier A/C that we hope to enjoy for the next 20 years. Richard in Overland Park
My wife and I had numerous bids from a few local heating and cooling companies. One of those bids was with Cates. A service manager (Chuck) came out and looked at our old water heater and gave us a bid for replacement. This bid was not the lowest but he made us feel comfortable about his knowledge of water heaters. We called and set up a installation date and on that day Jake came out and replaced the water heater with a new one. We are happy with the attention we got and all questions answered in a professional manner. Thankyou Cates..job well done! .
My water heater starting gushing water first thing in the morning. I called Cates and had my new water heater in by midday.
