I had them out to inspect my AC, my furnace, and give me an estimate for a chimney-related problem. They concluded that the AC had sufficient refrigerant, pressure, and produced sufficient temperature difference both at the compressor and inside the home. However, in the next days it got very hot, and while the inside fan was running, the AC didn't really produce any cool air. After two days of enduring this, I mentioned it to another HVAC company who visited me for the same estimate for my chimney matter (for which they ended up charging less than half of what Ryan wanted, but that's another matter), and he took a quick look. We both went to the compressor, and it turned out that the Ryan techs had left the fuses disconnected and sitting on the compressor, so the outside unit never kicked on! To make matters worse, they had also not put the little screw caps on the valves where they hook up their recharge equipment. This means the valves would be exposed to the element, and this being close to the ground, likely plug up over time with grime. So, they made two major beginner's mistakes with my AC! They then asked me to email pictures, which I did, but never called back or contacted me again. When I then called them again, Mr. Ryan twice hung up on me. STAY AWAY!!!!!

They were able to temporarily hook up electrical when our panel had to be replaced, so we were grateful for that. A list of problems followed: they rarely showed up when expected, the communication was awful. After installation, we discovered the garage was accidentally wired as 240V which burnt up the batteries for our power tools, ruined the radio and actually caught the garage door opener on fire (none of which they covered the cost for). Six months after installation, we found the AC wires in the ceiling tucked away, they were never wired back in. We paid for the permit, but they never actually got the permit or had an inspection. They also created a disorganized mess of the electrical panel; in the last 2 years, we’ve found that 80-90% of the labels for the breakers have been wrong. We made a quick decision when hiring them because it was an emergency, don’t do the same thing, do your research first!

Highway Robbery... The train wreck of rampant overcharging in the home maintenance business could not be better personified by Pat Ryan. Newer to town, I thought and old timer would be more trustworthy, being from a kinder more honest era. I was mistaken. The 'diagnosis' took five minutes and he attempted to charge me 120.00 even though he told my wife on the phone 85 not 2 hours prior. He defended this by saying, "oh, sometimes we get the amounts mixed up and charge more for coming out on a Saturday. He pretended like a receptionist gave him the wrong amount not realizing it had been he himself. The inference being "I just charge people way over what I said and hope they don't say anything." Translation: No ethics. He then informed me of my options which started at 500.00. He told me my furnace was old but not how old and did not prepare me at all for what, in his professional opinion, I should do. Essentially he gave me no options that I could understand. He was happy to "fix" it and charge me what ended up being 550 thereabouts with the diagnosis fee. He made me buy my own thermostat and the only PART he used was 59 cents/ft electrical wire. He also used some basic tools to thread wire through the wall. The work took less than three hours and he brought a second for no reason. In the end he charged me about 135.00 / HOUR! for labor for each of them... Not the worst part. He showed me what he did and informed me that I would have more problems in the future and I should look into getting a new furnace but only AFTER I wrote the check. This information, ethically, is given as part of the diagnosis. He left and within 24 hours the furnace did not work. I call him for an estimate for the new furnace and he told me... " I don’t remember it that well and so I charge 50 dollars for looking at it.” I paid this man over 500 dollars to leave my furnace in essentially the exact same broken down condition he found it in. Even worse as I could Jerry rig it before to blast on full at least. Now it doesn't function at all. This man, while having knowledge of his trade, is a strait con and if I could I would press formal charges. Unfortunately the better business bureau is all I have.

RUN FROM THIS GUY!!!!! He will absolutely do anything to jack up the cost to charge you as much as possible. He performed work that was not needed nor could help. His initial charge was $76 to diagnose. His next charge is $127 for light repairs and cleaning. He waited to diagnose what was wrong with my system until AFTER he did some cleaning so to be able to charge more. Then he decided to figure out what was wrong. Low and behold the compressor is shot so no matter how much cleaning he does, it won't make a difference. I am having a whole new central air unit put in today. I talked with him after and told him this over charge is not acceptable and his response was, "Well, I have to pay my employees and ware house so I have to charge like that." I just got off the phone with my credit card company to dispute the charges. PLEASE HEED MY ADVISE AND DO NOT USE THIS DISHONEST PERSON!!!!! If you don't mind that sick feeling in your stomach of being taken advantage of and being cheated, then by all means this is the person for you. If I could rate him lower, I would. Learn from my mistake. There are too many other repair men out there to take a chance on this one.

Wouldn't fix the root of the issue just kicked it down the road. Completely cut off electricity in my garage. Then when I called back they claimed they only install 120amp when I specifically asked for 220. Paid for a 220 only to have the electrician working steal it. Horrible company ran by a senile old man.

This operation is a scam. New furnace install went fine, but then AC unit does not work come summer. Want 500$ to fix wires and new thermostat. Total lies. Thermostat less than year old and if wires broke its from furnace install. 2nd opinion called it a shake down.

A/C was not working at my daughter's house. I was driving in from Saginaw to be there when the service man arrived. He scheduled to come out the next day after I called. I was given an exact time of arrival. On the way to Lansing, I received a call from the owner and he said the service man was behind schedule and would be arriving 45 minutes late. He arrived at the new time and was very professional. He diagnosed the problem and unfortunately did not have the replacement in his vehicle. He offered to be back the next day at an agreed upon time. The next day, he again arrived on time and the unit was fixed.

DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY HE IS A CROOK!!!!!! First off Pat Ryan way overcharged for his services. $827.xx to service 2 a.c units. Which one of the units needed no servicing but intended to work on that unit. I called him the following day after servicing the both units explaining that my unit wasn't blowing as cold of air as it used to...like not even cold, and that some gel substance is leaking from my furnace that was never there before. His response was that the unit was 18 years old and that unit had had it's days. My response was so it worked before u tampered with it i know of older units that are older than 18 yrs and still work and mine worked just fine before u touched it. His next response was that the ambient temperature from outside to inside will only be a 10 degree difference. Now I'm feeling like he's just blowing smoke up my bum to get the great of him so I say ok it's only a 1 degree difference explain that?. He then continued blowing smoke up my bum again about how it was over 18 yrs old. I told him i don't care about all that it worked just fine before u touched and then asked him what was up with the gel substance on the floor that's leaking from my furnace? His response was that it's just condensation building up on the inside of the unit. Yeah right condensation doesn't turn to gel get real Pat. I then spoke to one of his guys that informed me that he explicitly told Pat Ryan that my unit didn't need servicing that it was fully charged. Pat Ryan then grabbed his refrigerant tank and proceeded filling my a.c unit which caused a coil on the inside if my furnace to bust and leak refrigerant explaining the gel substance on the floor and the lack of cold air. I spoke to Pat again and he told me he would stop over to check on the unitthe following day. Almost 3 months later with me bugging him almost daily my a.c took a dump and doesnt work anymore. Now he finally decides to come look at it and said he'd get bank to me in a day. Then next day he comes at me with a $3,000 bill to replace the a.c unit. What the hell??? I told him he broke he needs to did it with no charge. He then starts dialing 911 on his office phone. I left his office immediately and now I'm talking to a lawyer going to take him to court. Again DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY HE IS A CROOK!!!!

He showed up and informed us there would be a $50 charge for an estimate. The estimate was only for hanging one chandelier. We were not told about the charge until he was at the door. The estimate does go towards the install but the bid was so high, it wasn't worth the total price. He also said that we might need a fan box because of the weight of the fixture, but the fixture hangs from a hook, not the fan box.

I have called Ryan Co. for my ac,heat and electrical needs since 1993. their service was always prompt, professional and reasonably priced. The workers were friendly, and competent. I would recommend this company to anyone. More than once they ended up charging me slightly less than the original estimate. Paul Reiber, Lansing
