Our 21 yo gas wall heater in our accessory unit in Encinitas would only turn on intermittently for many years, needing to be kicked to respond. We had a different repairman come out to “fix” it 5 years ago, but when we called him back within the week because it still wasn’t fixed, he charged us again to come out and still didn’t really fix it. We went ahead and replaced the thermostat ourselves which seemed to help. That left us not trusting his competency, so when it flat out wouldn’t start at all this season, we searched for someone who would be more competent (and available.)
In making calls around (based on google and yelp reviews), I quickly learned that most of the bigger companies weren’t interested in my little wall furnace (everything has shifted to HVAC over the years), and likely many of their service people would not have the experience working on an older wall furnace.
Then I found Jim’s A/C and Heating. I liked the fact that it is a small company and Jim himself does most of the work, who has been in business for many decades. Nothing takes the place of experience. I called and left a message about the problem and Jim himself called me back later that same day and was able to come out to evaluate the problem the next day. Well, not only did he methodically and patiently go through a thorough evaluation, he was able to replace a needed part (fortunately, he actually had this part in his truck, which had been there for years…it’s an old furnace!), and also checked out anything else that could be the problem. Presto! It’s now responsive and working well. He also let us know that if it fails anytime over the next 30 days that we would not be charged another service fee to come out again.
Jim told me that one of his very first jobs was repairing Sears wall heaters. It’s obvious that he really knows what he’s doing! Not only that, he is kind, friendly, incredibly patient and charges very reasonably. He also didn’t try to upsell me, pointing out that the heater body is still solid and should last a lifetime. What a good and ethical man! We are grateful to have found him, and he will now be our go-to guy for any heater or HVAC problems!

Jim’s air conditioning and heating provides excellent service. They were able to schedule an appointment for me the next day on a Saturday which is quite rare during the summer. I had the pleasure of having Jim the owner look at my a/c unit who quickly diagnosed what the issue was. Jim had to leave to pick up the part that needed replacement. He said he could return later. I mentioned that I only had a limited time to wait and he was quite accommodating and assured me he would return promptly. The a/c unit was fixed very fast. The owner did not try to sell me a new unit and gave me advice on when I should consider purchasing a new one. The cost of service and part replacement was very reasonable. Thank you Jim for your honesty, good customer service, and expert care!

My air conditioner quit on the hottest day of the year. I tried another company who said it would be two weeks before I could get service. Then
I called Jim's. I had someone out the very next afternoon - on time and with a call before to confirm. The tech was very polite and efficient. Turns out my air conditioner was fine. My furnace door was jarred open and it stopped the air conditioner from coming on. I was thrilled. He could have taken advantage of me and did not. I am telling all my friends to call this company for fast honest service. i am very pleased. UPDATE: I have continued to use Jim's and I continue to be pleased with their above and beyond service!

Excellent service! Highly recommended. Met with Jim for the initial consultation about my AC unit not working properly. Then his grandson Bill came out to successfully identify what was causing the problem with the AC unit and to get it fixed properly. Bill completed the service and the very same day he came out the AC was up and running blowing cold ice on a very hot day. Nice guy. Honest service and pricing. Good company to do business with. If you want to make sure you are getting the truth about your AC unit, I would recommend working with this company. They are definitely experienced professionals and know what to do to get the job done right.

great service at a reasonable price, that's all you can ask for and that's exactly what I got. I had Jim's out for an A/C summer checkup and a rep named Bill showed up on time, he was professional, knowledgable and explained everything he was doing to check the system. Turns out I needed some refrigerant added and the rest of system was good to go. Bill was thorough and took time to check the system, I am completely satisfied and will call them when this system is done for a new one.

Jim came over 2 weeks ago to take a look at my furnace and air conditioner which needed to be replaced. He said he would install Maytag products. I have Carrier and preferred that to Maytag or would be open to other top 10 brands. The majority of reviews online were negative about Maytag furnaces and air conditioners. He said he would get back to me in a week after he looked into the products I preferred. He never got back to me. I emailed his office manager the following week and she replied saying they would get back to me in a day. No response. I called her and she said it was her fault that he had not gotten back to me. She is responsible for keeping track of his work orders. This time she said she would talk to him and get back to me the next day. Again, no response. I can only conclude Jim was not interested in installing a product other than Maytag! Will not recommend to friends. Bad experience

We received a recommendation from our Park Manager which was spot on. Jim arrived on time, told us what was needed and the cost, then e-mailed us the info on the heater. Installation was as advertised with info along the way and the clean was perfect.
