Sara and Lance where absolutely amazing. We got our furnace serviced and running after an issue with it and us being new homeowners knowing very little about it. This service company was responsive and professional, but most of all, I appreciated that they were kind, relational, and treated my trouble with navigating a home warranty company (which they don't normally work with due to the unnecessary hoops they have been put through in the past) with respect, understanding, and good humor. These guys installed a gas steam heating boiler in December 2022. They matched the price and system of another company who had a 2 week wait list. Handy was able to install next day, so I went with them instead. It has been a nightmare since. The install included the destruction of mortar around the chimney where they installed a new stack/vent from the new boiler. This was not repaired. Each visit left a massive mess and water all in the boiler room. Furthermore, the workers bumped the other boiler’s damper that resulted in it turning off, requiring a service tech from a different company to repair at $130. The pipes around the new boiler leaked and required multiple follow up visits to repair. At the last repair visit, the spill switch was disconnected by them requiring another visit. All the piping was not replaced, it was spliced with older pipes and you guys charged me a service fee of $150 for this repair which was not paid. Let’s fast forward to after a completed install and multiple visits, I was notified by my tenants that their unit was not heating. I reviewed the boiler. It had a low water light illuminated indicating that was likely the problem. However, this unit has an auto water feeder that should not allow this problem to arise. I contacted my regular HVAC company for a service call fee of $130. They reviewed and inspected the unit. Found that the auto water feeder was not connected to the unit. Also found that the original, outdated gas feed line was still in place and was never replaced as mandated by the city/state of Providence, RI when new units are installed. Even more troubling was the firomatic was removed and replaced with an exposed 120V electrical that was grounded to an exposed metal box. This was live and is a major safety issue. I also wanted to point out that the quote honored from another company for this install is a lesser efficiency model (82% instead of 84%). Communication has been lacking on the owner’s side. Left me with a boiler that sounded like a jet Heat & hot water stopped working on high efficiency boiler; I called several companies to get someone in immediately and Handy was the company that would get in soonest. Charged $175 for diagnostic which isn't bad in an emergency situation. Woman I spoke with was friendly, funny, laid back. Now the bad - First thing the tech said when he arrived is "haven't seen one of these before" oy vey! He did diagnose correctly, it was the blower assembly, however, given these parts aren't kept in inventory with repair companies. The woman I had been communicating with, whom I assume is an owner or wife of, said it would take a couple days for the part to come in - fine what could I do right. Well, I found the part online in Massachusetts, it would have been delivered next day or I even offered to go pick it up myself. Handy rep suggests online sites can't be trusted for accurate inventory - why would I think she's lying right? Well, it was a Monday when I lost heat, she said it would be fixed no later than Friday. On Thursday I get oh the part won't be in so no later than Mon. I was like um Mon is a holiday, no delivery. Having no heat & hot water for 4 days at this point I found the part myself in Massachusetts, I had my daughter drive 3 hours, paid cash for the part so tech installed on Friday. After install, heat & water worked but now boiler sounds like a jet plane and is about to shake off the wall. Tech came 3 times, problem was never resolved. Last, she said she couldn't get to me again until " next week" she never called again. I contacted another company "Martel" they came out, super professional, tweaked the system because with the new blower it needs to be restored to manufacturer specs. They also informed me they had to adjust gas flow because the co levels were measuring way too high. The fact that Handy had no clue how to fix the problem or test the system properly is horrible. To leave me hanging, never contacting me
