You could not ask for better service. The technician explained what needed to be done and cost involved. My problem returned and Scott Ives resolved the matter in a timely and very professional manner. I will use them again on all of my properties.
I have been using this company for several years now and I am very happy with their service. Chris O. came to do an annual check up of my AC unit and was extremely professional and thorough. They never try to sell you anything that is not needed like some huge companies do !!
Easy to deal with, very responsive
I’ve used Whalen & Ives on numerous occasions for AC and furnace service/repairs and for an AC replacement/installation. Never had any issues and felt work was done competently at a fair price. They also respond promptly to phone calls especially for emergency service (even on Christmas Day!), which is more than can be said for a number of other high profile HVAC contractors in the area who act like they’re doing you a favor. I would definitely recommend them.
I moved into a home in the northern NJ area in November of 2022 that had heating problems from day 1. As we had just spent a large portion of our savings on the home purchase, my fiancé and I decided to hold off on addressing the heat issue until we couldn’t stand it any longer. That day came around Christmas when there was a massive cold front in our area, and our house couldn’t get above 50 degrees. We contacted Whelan & Ives and they had a technician at our house the very same day. He thoroughly described to us the issue and the course of action. The boiler that came with the home was over 25 years old and needed replacing (a large expense), but he knew that we were new homeowners, and he recommended a plan that would get us through this winter without having to immediately replace the boiler, to give us some extra time to save to replace before the next season. He was able to get the heat back going and it’s been working ever since. The pricing was very reasonable and the service exceeded my expectation. My only regret is not calling sooner! Called to inspect an HVAC system that was not balanced. They seemed knowledgeable but the proposal which was to add a new zone and make some changes in returns was more expensive than a full new system installation. I went with another company that did pretty much the same thing but for a quarter of what they quoted. I’d say ask at least one other company for a quote before moving forward with them.
I contacted the company regarding two issues - AC and heat. They sent TWO techs out at the same exact time so that they could charge two distinct fees. One guy (presumably the one with brains) actually looked at both. They attempted to charge $300 for one and $200 for the other "service". I paid the one visit for the issue actually addressed. And then several MONTHS later they claimed I still owed them the other. Not only that - they attempted to charge me $1,720 for a part they NEVER even ordered or installed! I had to order the part, install myself, and hire SOMEONE ELSE to program. I was and am still furious and disgusted. Now TODAY, I got a call from a debt collector on the $300 visit fee. I'd rather go to court. I will never pay as a matter of principle. I will forever advise friends, family, and everyone that will listen, that Whalen & Ives is HORRIBLE. They are rude, unprofessional, unorganized and treat customers terribly. RUN!
David Jr. met with us, reviewed our property and spent a lot of time outlining exactly what the work would entail as well as a detailed timeline. On the installation date the team were punctual, efficient, and incredibly clean. We were so impressed with their work as it was the smoothest and easiest installation we've ever experienced. To the Forman Reno, Eddie & Alex thank you for making this such a painless process. We highly recommend Whalen & Ives!
Called and within 2 hours we had a technician at the house. Quick and easy fix. No hassle, same day service.
Personable people, knowledgeable, good service. They installed and service our central air conditioning system. This past November they replaced our furnace. They were excellent throughout the process of providing an estimate and getting the work permit, to communications and getting the work completed. The crew that installed the furnace was very professional and did a nice, clean job. I highly recommend Whalen & Ives. Update: This month (June 2022) I had W&I replace our 16 year old A/C system because it wore out. Another great job by W&I, this time by Alex and Eric.
I can’t really write my experience because they didn’t do any work, but we called for a quote and was told that they could not do a quote because it wasn’t ordered by a lawyer. Which was very odd considering we needed three quotes and they were the third place we called to try and get a quote and the other two places had no problem giving us a quote. i’m just assuming at this point they don’t want new customers.
Every time I call they are super accommodating and professional. They always try to save old parts when they can which saves money. They even try to troubleshoot things with me on the phone if they can on the weekends to avoid emergency fees. The technicians are all so knowledgeable. I recommend them to anyone especially Bobby. He seems to know literally everything.
They installed a new $10k furnace that couldn’t heat my homes water. Took them 5 visits to realize it was a wire sensor to my hot water tank that went bad. Then charged me $425 to replace the wire and insisted I pay them even though I had hot water issues from feb to April. We had no hot water for two weeks in February after the install. Owner didn’t care and chased me down to pay him $425 for a part that cost less than $80. Which should of been include the $10k I paid in a new furnace install. They do not care if you have no hot water they just want to make money and squeeze you for everything. The owner was rude and cold and horrible business man. Be carful!
This was a quick and easy fix. I very much appreciate that they knew exactly what the problem was, and handled it right away. There was no exaggeration of what was wrong in order to increase the price, as so many companies do! A larger, well-known company came out first, and they couldn’t locate where the problem was coming from! After they left, I called Whalen & Ives, and I’m so glad I did! recommend them if you want knowledgeable, FAIR, and speedy service. Thank you!

They came in on time and fixed AC, it's great but they charged for service / labor but double charged for the part and explained me they always double charged to cover their office operation cost. does it make sense?
I had Whalen & Ives come out at the beginning of the season for a yearly tune up and to become a "customer" ("customers" get priority emergency service). About 500 dollars later for the service and some new parts on my old system things are working fine. The problem comes a month later. My AC dies on a Tuesday afternoon and I call for service. The woman on the phone asks if I'm a customer - YES, so they'll be out today! 500 bucks well spent a month earlier to get someone to come out the same day. Well, 7PM rolls around and my wife asks what's up, why aren't they here yet... I say don't worry they'll show.. Maybe we should call to see how long? I call and they tell me my service was cancelled because "someone" told them it was just a thermostat issue and I didn't need anyone to come. If I still want someone to come today it will be a DOUBLE CHARGE for after hours. To recap: I call and am told they're on their way. I wait about 5 hours and call again, and they tell me they cancelled my call, for honestly what sounds like a lie, or a massive misunderstanding. Nobody in my house cancelled that service call. Then try to charge me DOUBLE to do what they promised 5 hours earlier. Take from it what you will, I''m no longer recommending this company to anyone.
Every year I get maintenance check on my heating and cooling units. They are professional, on-time, and helpful. One time I had the AC compressor break and they resolved the issue over the phone because it was during early summer busy season and couldn't get onsite right away.
Arrogant, self-serving, terrible customer service.
For the service calls they were quite good, however when I requested a formal proposal for a new HVAC system, they had a salesman come but he just never followed up! I called two times for a formal proposal and still no follow up. If they didn’t want to do the job, just flat out tell me. But whatever, end of the day I got proposals from four other vendors near me....so don’t sleep on your customers because I’ll be taking my contract elsewhere
