Zach did most of the needed work of replacing my furnace. Corey and Tony came and helped Zach move the old furnace out and my dead generator. Very professional, good and clean work. Explained the need furnace and thermostat. Very happy with the work.
NorthStar installed a Gree ductless mini-split system for my house in Hermantown and I was extremely satisfied with the experience. Getting a quote was easy and they worked with me to find the right solution for my house. The installation crew was friendly, courteous, and did great work. The end result is system that works great, saves me money, and looks at good as it possibly could. I even qualified for a nice fat rebate from Uncle Sam. I'm a very happy customer.

David and Fred are terrific technicians! Both went out of their way to ensure our heating system worked again and checked all possible potential issues to avoid future problems! Replaced the warranty boiler efficiently and with smiles!! Great attitudes and a pleasure to have in our home!!!
I can’t say enough amazing things about Travis and Brian! The effort to make sure we are taken care of that Travis has made goes beyond good customer service…it’s customer service I thought no longer existed! He has the “if there is a will there is a way” attitude and we couldn’t feel more blessed and thankful that we called them for help- even on an emergency basis they showed up the very next day when everyone else either didn’t answer or call back!! Travis and the Northstar Services team are my go-to heating and air conditioning specialists; I've used them for years. Most recently they serviced my furnace and installed a wifi-connected thermostat. I save so much money by managing the system when I'm away and can check on the system from anywhere.
Travis at Northstar is amazing. I called him on a weekend when I had no heat at the deer shack. He walked me thru some troubleshooting over the phone and i was able to get it up and running. Travis was a life saver!
I recently bumped into the owner of Northstar at the Duluth Home Show and spoke to him personally about the great service his company provided to me. Back in May of 2020 I sent out bids to replace my AC and furnace in my home. Northstar won the bid and installed new units for both. The installation team came out on time, finished on time and provided great service. A few months later I accidentally bumped into the condensate tank and knocked it from its mount. I called Northstar and they sent out a tech THAT DAY and he fixed the tank and I was not charged for the call (even though it was clearly my fault). Highly recommend these folks for all your HVAC needs. Great products AND great service.
NorthStar Services installed our new boiler and we're happy. It was like This Old House! ...after they removed the old boiler and water heater, they hung a small unit on the wall that heats the house and provides hot water. We recommend NorthStar Services.
To start with, Russ cleaned my boiler and went through the items that were not functioning up to par and needed replacing. He was extremely thorough explaining everything to me. Repairs were done by Sam, who did an excellent and thorough job on that boiler. I’m very happy with Northstar Services and would recommend them wholeheartedly! Thanks guys!!
We had an on-demand water heating system installed and a water softener. The cost was a bit expensive, but the professionalism and expertise was phenomenal. My husband and I had discussed how we needed to revamp our whole system anyway. With our heat going out this was an opportunity to just get it done. We haven't had any issues whatsoever since the install. It looks beautiful! I wasn't home for the heating system install, but I was there for the water softener install and the guys were extremely nice and answered all my questions and showed me everything I needed to know about the water softener. They definitely new what they were doing and made sure everything was running smoothly before they left. We are extremely satisfied with our end result and will definitely use NorthStar Services again in the future if needed. Thank you NorthStar Services!
They are easy to work with. You can ask any questions without feeling dumb or looked down upon. They helped me with my furnace, and even gave me some good tips on maintenance. I would definitely refer them to everyone I know!

I got an immediate call from Northstar minutes after I looked them up on Angi's list. Charlie came out, gave an estimate on the spot, about $1700 less than an estimate we got with another company. Anthony and Corey were the installers, and they were able to come two days sooner than expected. They did a great job, and our house is so much warmer. I highly recommend this company.
Hats off to Zach and Dom for their stand up job removing my old boiler system and replacing it with a brand new unit. They left my short term rental unit clean following the work done in the unit, which was far different than others I had prior to calling Northstar. Charlie's estimate and coordination of the project made things roll out smoothly, and the team's rapid response made it so I was able to get my rental back up and running 2x faster than what other companies estimated.
Equipment recommendation and installation of new furnace and AC were great, zero complaints. However, a month after install, the dampers in the duct work stopped working. The service tech came out promptly and said he was just at another house that had the same damper motor fail and he was waiting for a supplier to help with a replacement. I was told that he’d get back to me as soon as he had a compatible replacement. After that, I never heard from anyone. I called about once monthly from May through August and could not get an update. I started calling at least weekly in September and still didn’t get a call back. I finally ordered whole replacement dampers and installed them myself at the end of October.
When we decided to switch from a fuel oil heating system to a propane system, we called several heating/cooling companies in the Duluth area. When we contacted NorthStar Services, we were in touch with Charles Deville, who came out that evening and talked to us about heating systems and what would work for our home. He provided us with a very competitive quote by the next morning. We chose NorthStar to install our new system and even upgraded to add air conditioning. Charles answered our questions in great detail while providing timelines and the next steps, including coordinating propane installation with Curtis Oil. On installation day, Zach and Dom showed up on time and worked efficiently. They were personable and explained what was going on as they worked throughout the day. Once the system was installed and clean-up was completed, Zach and Dom showed us our new system and even took extra steps to seal up a crack in our wall that was hidden behind our old fuel oil tank. Charles, Zach, and Dom made this process easy and stress-free while providing excellent customer service. I highly recommend NorthStar services for any heating and A/C services.
Luke from Northstar services was awesome in helping to solve and fix a water leaking problem on my 4 year old hi-efficiency Amana furnace. This leak has happened twice in 4 years and he called office and warranty company so we could replace what needed to be done instead of another temporary fix. Great customer service and care for a customer. Thanks
They came out less then a week after I called, was expecting a inspection only. He had circulation pump with him that worked, did the work same day, very professional and would definitely work with again in future
First Class Business For Sure!! Charlie was very knowledgeable with great communication when offering the options and recommendations for our furnace and A/C install. Sam, Keath, and Tyler were absolutely outstanding. They had a hard job to remove 4 furnaces, 2 oil tanks, and an A/C unit...no complaints, just a strong work ethic and best team.
