Great service - would give more than 5 stars if I could! Rich and Lori took a bad situation (failed combination hot water heater) and helped ease the pain, going above and beyond to provide a solution designed to last and explain the quirks of our new-to-us house / the plusses and minuses of our chosen approach to the system replacement. Prices were fair and very competitive with other plumbers in the neighborhood. They went out of their way to make sure the new system got in fast before the winter cold set in, and were all-around great to deal with - responsive on the phone, transparent about equipment delivery and project updates, and just super kind to us and our nosy dog. Highly recommend!
Rich went above and beyond assisting with maintenance to my boiler. He was on vacation and took my call because my boiler wasn’t working in winter temps. He walked me through all the steps of getting my boiler working until he was back to service it. I would have been without heat that day without him! He cares a lot about his customers and provides a top notch service!
I contacted Rich to replace my 15 years old water heater and he returned my call within an hour. I shared photos of my heater over text and Rich provided a quote right away. That was my first time I needed to replace a water heater and didn’t know much about it, but he answered all my questions explained all the options I have and gave me very reasonable price. Rich is extremely professional and honest person, and he really cares about his customers, their safety and makes sure that the job is done right. After the service he did follow up to make sure everything is okay and there are no issues. He really went above and beyond for me and provided an exceptional service. Saturday morning. No hot water! No heat! Our Weil McClain boiler will not ignite. Rich Mathews and Son Lynnfield responded promptly. After a quick inspection the problem was identified fixed. We had to replace our gas hot air furnace recently and placed a call to Rich Mathews & Son to give us a quote to do the work. He had previously installed a water heater at our house and did a great job at a fair price so we didn't hesitate to call him again. He just completed the installation of our new gas heating system and everything went smooth from start to finish. He explained to us exactly what needed to be done and he made sure that the project is completed as promised at a price that was again unbeatable. I would highly recommend that you contact them for any similar work you need done and I will be sure to hire them again if the need arises! It was a pleasure working with him!
I don't hesitate to call Rich if I need plumbing work done. Rich put in a new boiler for us and has done some other work we needed. He does great work and is a true professioal with a great attitude. We have an old house with a few quirks, so we appreciated Rich making the time to follow up with us to make sure our boiler was working as expected.
Rich did an exceptional job at our house. We are new homeowners and we were faced with a water heater not up to code. Not only did he go out of his way to ensure that the correct solution was done, but he took the time to explain all the options, listened to our needs and gave us the best pricing- out of three quotes! The job was completed the following day immaculately. He followed up the following day to ensure our satisfaction. An extremely professional and honest person.
Rich is the perfect plumber, returns call and emails promptly, visits site and accesses the task with short notice, gives a quick and competitive quotes. But the big asset is he is an excellent craftsman who provides outstanding quality workmanship. I will always use him on all my plumbing needs.
Rich was awesome! We were in a real bind with no heat due to the Columbia Gas leaks in my area. Rich came in and worked long days through the weekend in order to get us back up and running. Incredibly thoughtful and trustworthy. Can't thank them enough!
Rich Mathews helped us convert our house from oil to gas heat, and we had a wonderful experience with him. He got to our job ahead of schedule, was incredibly easy to work with, fixed some other various issues he found while he was here, and gets bonus points for bringing treats for our dog (who loves Rich now). The next time we have a plumbing need he’ll be our first call, and we can’t recommend him enough.
Can't say enough about Rich. I woke up around 5am to find our furnace fan running but not igniting. Called 10 places trying to get someone out that day and was turned away until we called Rich who mentioned he lived nearby and was happy to come by that morning. After 2 hours of working on the furnace he had everything up and running, provided us with all the information on what he did and what to keep an eye on, and best of all he didn't even charge us! Just a genuinely nice guy who really helped us out in a pinch.
I highly recommend Rich! He replaced our failing hot water heater. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Rich answered all of our questions and explained everything he was doing. He really cares about his customer’s safety and makes sure that the job is done right.
Rich Mathews just finished installing a new gas heat and hot water system in my sister-in-law's home in Revere. Rich's attention to detail, constant communication every step of the way and his personal willingness to go above and beyond every step of the way was superb! I have hired a lot of different contractors for as lot of different jobs in the many years that I have been working on my home, as well as my family's homes. While I have had many good experiences, and some not so good, Rich is by far the best in his field! I called Rich at the beginning of December to talk about replacing my ancient (1982) furnace and a water heater that was starting to hurt. Add in that I was trying to do it through Mass Save with a heat loan. Rich came out to my house on a Saturday to look at the job and give us the quote we would need to get the heat loan. He had the quote to me that same day via email and he dropped off a paper copy the next business day. He's forthright and honest and he started teeing up the special pieces we would need while we were waiting for the bank to approve the loan. He was very responsive the whole time and was good about giving me a call for updates. Because of the jury-rigged nature of the old furnace, he told us it would take two days, possibly three, to get the old one out and the new furnace and water heater in. He worked late on a Friday to get it done right before the temperatures dropped down below 20. The new ductwork, venting, and drain for the condensate are all really well done. You can see the quality of his work. It is well below freezing outside, and this is the warmest my house has been since I bought it. He even came back after the install was complete to change an exterior fitting for the air intake because he wasn't happy with the part he had on hand when he did the job originally. 10/10 I would go back to Rich for any work I needed done.

After being told my hot water heater was in "imminent failure" I reached out to Rich, and he was able to help me within a day. I shared photos of my heater and Rich provided a quote over the phone. Upon installation, it became clear it would not be a cut and dry replacement - Rich meticulously checked pipes, exit points, etc. to ensure that my building and I were safe, and fixed unexpected issues that came up. All while sticking with his original quote. Rich was amazing - super friendly, professional and obviously cares about his work and clients.
We couldn't be happier with the service provided by Rich. He replaced an old hot water heater with a propane-fuelled one, and replaced two faucets for us, to boot. A consummate professional, Rich was friendly, informative, and completed all work in a timely manner. We will definitely turn to him in the future. Highly recommended!

Rich Mathews & Son installed both our heating system and our water heater in 2011. The service was great, the work was done efficiently, the cost was fair, and Rich provided clear instructions for the very simple maintenance that the systems require. We have had no trouble with either system since installation and Rich has consistently been responsive to our occasional inquiries over the years.
