I called Davis and Davis because they were on the HVAC unit and had serviced it before. My first call was due to the AC not turning on. The tech who came out said it was because the humidifier has tripped and stopped the AC from to prevent damage. Ok, that sounds right. But after the he left it still wasn't cooling the house. The second time I called was because I was hearing a banging noise in the unit and the house wasn't cooling down even though the AC was set to 72 degrees. The tech came out again, same guy, and said everything was fine. Ok but the house still wasn't getting cool. He spent no more than 20 minutes and called it done. The third time I called, because the AC wasn't cooling the house, yes there's a pattern here. The tech came out, checked the AC unit and I said I needed to purchase a part because the compressor wasn't keeping enough pressure to push the coolant into the house. Sure, I guess, he's the expert right? I called the fourth time because it has almost been a week and no one was calling me. I understood there was a holiday but still an update when have been great because it was about to be 90 degrees and we still didn't have AC. D&D sent a "senior" tech that day (I'll give them that) who then said the original tech was wrong and that I needed to purchase a more expensive part (double the price). Alright, get the part, I'd like to have AC before it becomes hot and humid. Finally, on the fifth attempt my AC was working. Although I am grateful my AC is working I'm not happy that was charged multiple times for visits by a tech who apparently had no idea what he was doing. My total bill for the wrong diagnosis and five visits? $1000+. I'll be hard pressed to use them again unless it is related to the new part they installed. Unfortunately, I won't recommend them either. If they would have sent me someone with the proper skill to fix the problem I probably could have save my self $400 or more and had working AC within a week rather than a m

We have used Davis & Davis for 15+ years and they always do a great job. We have replaced two A/C systems and each time the job was done professionally and at a fair price. Kevin Smith is great to work with. Each spring and fall they do annual maintenance on the systems in a timely and efficient manner. Every tech they send is well qualified and will take the time to answer your questions.

I am forced to update my review from last year. When I was paying D&D literally thousands of dollars for one-off repairs, they were responsive and eager to have me keep coming back for large sums of money. The service contract is a different story, and frankly a joke. The 15-minute servicing of two entirely separate systems three days ago ($360 service contract) resulted in both of the units remaining full of debris, none of the filters changed becauce I apparently maintain them too well to benefit from that service, and $171 to complete a top off of refrigerant even though maintaining the refrigerant is listed on the contract as part of the service. I immediately called the office to discuss my concerns, and was told that Kevin was the only person in the entire company who could speak with me, but he is never in the office and refuses to call me back. The service contract benefits as listed on the website are purely false advertising - the following is patently untrue: Service manager available from 7:30-9:30 7 days a week (only available until 4:30 based on the answering service, if he exists, which is still unclear at this point), service available from 7:30 - 9:30 7 days a week (see above), priority service provided to you over non-service contract members (I haven't even received a phone call over a week - I received much better service when my business was still being earned), radio dipsatched trucks deliver quick response to service needs, quality service you can trust. If you have a $3,000 repair, I can recommend this company for that work. Otherwise, don't waste your blood pressure.

Experienced, professional, and FRIENDLY... This company is what you want in HVAC service. I would recommend this company for future repairs or installation because I felt at ease with repairs, service, future maintenance tips, fairness and cost.

A great, family owned local business. They haven't sold out to some private-equity roll up of local businesses. Hopefully, they never will. We have used them for 20 years to maintain the system they installed for the previous owner. Good job on that, but when we had them install a new system last year, Davis & Davis showed how committed they were to customer service. A day after they installed a new HVAC system last December, our system went haywire. The AC(!!) wouldn't stop running and froze up the line. They sent folks out, and the owner called promising to get it straitened out. An experienced technician identified our old thermostat as the source of the problem. Even though they put extra resources on a problem that was not caused by them, they did not charge us extra. Our HVAC has been running great for the past year!

Myles was a nice guy and a good Tech. This continues the family "tradition" of using D&D exclusively for my HVAC and Heating needs. Thanks again.

I called today based on listserv recommendation as our heat went out. I was put on hold several times after giving my name and address. Several minutes later a woman came on the phone and asked if I was a new customer. I said yes she stated the first appt was more than 10 days away and you know they had to take care of regular customes first. Did not offer to see if they could fit me in and she laughed when I stated how long it would be considering I had children and Christmas was in a week. I like to give local businesses work as I had a restaurant in Kensington and I'm sure some of their employees ate there. I've lived in Knsington 30 years and based on this interaction I will discourage locals from using them and recommend Atlantic Costal Heating and Cooling the owner lives in Garrett Park and they worked me in today and will be installing a new Heating system.

Had a condensate pump replaced on my BRYANT Heating system. It leaked within weeks of replacement. Had a second visit by another Technician who adjusted the condensate line because it had poor connection and made it more secure. After he left It leaked worse than the first time i reported the issue. I WAS VERY RELUCTANT TO GO WITH A BUSINESS THAT WAS NOT BBB ACCREDITED. THIS ONE WAS......! LET THIS SPEAK FOR ITSELF.

AC compressor was having issues starting reliably. From google searching I had a few ideas for what the issue might be. The tech came out, I explained what had happened and that I just bought the house a year ago and would love to see the condition of everything. He opened up the unit outside, showed me a few parts he thought could be the issue, busted out his multimeter and showed me the values he was receiving from the capacitor (all fine), and then he showed me the faulty contactor, and it was obvious it was bad. Replaced that part on the spot, tested my unit, it started up immediately. Some random small talk back and forth, overall, I'm very pleased. I'm always weary of calling in the professionals because you occasionally get that company that is out to squeeze every dime from you. My first impression of Davis & Davis is the complete opposite. I will only be calling them for all my AC and heating issues.

I live in an apartment building and my AC stopped working in so I went to the front desk to ask for recommendations figuring I would get a few local business familiar with my building's systems. The other 2 had some scheduling issues, but Davis & Davis was available that day. They said on the phone $90 for the first 30 minutes and something like $40 for every so 15 min after. Fine, it's hot out, plz fix or give me the bad news. Since masks are currently required indoor public areas in the county I was surprised when the guy showed up at my door (~10:35) after checking in the lobby (10:30 based on the call from the lady at the desk) and getting on the elevator up without one. Ok not a huge deal. First thing he does is ask to use the bathroom. Not great but, ok it happens. I did not know he was going to take a dump. Then, while basically silent, he proceeds to do a decent job (as far as I know) providing a temporary workaround/fix for the AC. He asks where the nearest vent is so he can measure the airflow. The easiest one to reach is in the bathroom. I get a step stool for him. A minute later the door to the bathroom closes and he takes another dump (my apartment ain't big). He comes out and pulls out an invoice for 10:15 - 11:15 for $175 ($90 then 2 x $40). I didn't even realize he didn't arrive until 10:30 until after he was gone. So I now have to contemplate whether or not to argue about the 15 minutes/$40 that this guy spent pooping twice in my home. At this point I'm kind of mad purely on principle but it's hard to argue with a quiet stranger in my house about $40. Plus it's temporarily fixed. I was more mad later after realizing I'd been charged for an extra $40/15 min, during which I guess he spent driving to my apartment. Got a call the next day from someone else at Davis&Davis telling me they don't know how to fix the type of HVAC in my apartment and they have had the address written down since 2015 as Do Not Schedule. Cherry on top, beautiful. TLDR: Paid

I paid this company over 8000$ to have two AC units installed in my home. I chose them after researching and finding generally positive reviews. However, my experience has been nothing short of embarrassing. After having my units installed, by the first week they were freezing over and leaking into my 6 month olds room. After promptly calling and reporting the issue, they sent workers to my house 4 consecutive days without resolution to include one worker who came without "the tools needed". This meant days off work and 3-6 hour windows where they twice arrived within 5 minutes of the end of the window. After the last of the 4 visits, I was told someone would be out the following week to repair the unit and the office manager would be calling. The office manager did not call for a week until I called and left an after-hours message voicing my displeasure. The repair man came and ensured the unit was fixed. It immediately froze back up and would not hold the 72 degree temp it was set to just as before. We are now awaiting on week 3 and attempt 6 to have someone fix the unit. The manager called and did not offer the slightest bit of apology and instead, when hearing my baby cry in the background, offered "you sound busy we will be out there later this week." Garbage company and garbage service.

I have nothing but praise for the quailty, value, promptness, reliability, courtesy and customer service that Davis and Davis showed when I needed a new A/C unit for my home. It was refreshing to experience their customer service and profesionalism. I can't say enough good things about them except that they are the best and a huge thank you. I'm so happy with their work!! I absolutely recommend them. Freddy Real

My mother has been a contract customer with Davis and Davis for many years; they installed her current furnace and AC and do yearly maintenance. This year, although they did their maintenance in July, the furnace didn't work when she turned it on in September. They came out to "fix" it. It still didn't work. They came out again in the middle of October to "fix" it. It still didn't work. After repeated calls and requests for emergency service, I was told to try turning it off and back on again, and that maybe they'd send someone out some time. My mother is 95 years old and it is cold out. I don't know if they are incompetent or simply don't care, but they don't seem to be able to make the equipment they installed work. Time to find another company.
