We received a terrific 83- gallon heat pump hot water heater, leaving gas-fired water heater behind. Reliable! Sustainable! PGE granted us a higher baseline electric allowance for changing this heat source.

I recently worked with Eco Performance Builders who installed heat pumps in my home in the Oakland hills. Given the configuration of my home it was necessary to install two separate heat pump units, as well as two new duct systems. I was very impressed with the comprehensive way that the EPB staff approached this project, working to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of these new heating/cooling systems while factoring in some unique facets of my home. The planners were very knowledgeable about these systems and did a good job explaining them to me. I was equally impressed with the EPB crew who did the installation of the new systems. They were very hard working, efficient and congenial. I was especially impressed with the way that the onsite project manager coordinated the different aspects of the installation as he kept the project moving along. The project was completed within the projected timeline. I am very pleased with the new systems. With both the heating and cooling, they are very quiet and throw off subtle but comfortable air. Eco Performance Builders had been recommended to me as a company who were leaders and experts in the area of this energy-efficient approach to heating and cooling. The company exceeded my expectations in how they handled this project and I would highly recommend EPB to others.

TLDR: I would go a winter without heat just to have Eco Performance replace my system over another contractor. It almost doesn't feel right to compare Eco Performance with the other Bay Area HVAC companies because Eco is operating at such a higher level. Earlier this year we completed a pretty large scope of work with Eco. This included 2 new ducted mini split systems with all new ducting, crawl space encapsulation, attic air sealing, insulation, and a heat pump water heater. I spent about a year researching options and getting quotes before signing a contract with ECO and there isn't anyone else in the Bay Area doing the level of work they are. I had ~10 companies provide a bid including all of the highest rate shops on Yelp. The majority of them spent less than 20 minutes in my house, did not run any sort of a load calculation, and promptly provided a mid 5 digit bid wanting to start right away. They size their HVAC systems based on "square footage and experience" and don't do any real ducting design. All of these quotes came in +/- 20% of one another, and all of these companies said they could start within a month. It was clear from the first meeting with Eco that their process is completely different. The first on-site assessment was over an hour and it was immediately apparent that Kyle was the domain expert I had been looking for. Eco followed up with a detailed quote explaining the process which included a room by room load calculation. This means they measure and draw a floor plan for your entire house including windows and insulation, run a blower door test to determine air leakage, and then run a computer model to determine how much air flow each room needs to maintain an even temperature across the house. This is just one example of the dozens of differences between what ECO does vs. the competition. To my surprise ECOs quote was competitive with the others I received when comparing similar systems and equipment. We also waited almost 6 months from co

I can't say enough good things about EcoPerformance. They helped us install attic insulation and a reversible mini-split heat pump. We now have a fully operating system that let's us stay comfortable in the increasingly hot summers while letting us retire our gas furnace and take a big step in lowering our carbon footprint and heating bill. Starting with design and scoping, EcoPerformance was patient and engaging with the litany of questions that we had. They're deeply connected with the green building industry yet can communicate in simple terms for the rest of us. They tested our home for leaks and made sure that the heat pump system was right-sized for efficient yet effective cooling and heating. Their back office was responsive with permitting, parking, billing, and the honey bucket. They know more about the rebates that you'd be aware of and really make an effort to getting you money back. Really appreciate keeping customers in mind. Lastly, a big shout out to their insulation and HVAC teams. They have a tough job that they did really well while being friendly and respectful. They had to work both in a tight, hot attic and also outside three stories up, while moving heavy equipment around everywhere -- all the while being really friendly and understanding that they were in someone's home.

Eco Performance Builders are The Best in HVAC and energy improvements. Customer service is top notch. We are extremely pleased with choosing them and would hire them again for any service they provide without question or comparison shopping. This company is beyond any other hvac company out there in terms of application of the latest in heating, cooling, insulation and energy efficiency. An independent inspector told me they are the best in the industry and inspecting their work is a formality. I asked a number of other hvac companies about my duct work, air sealing, a/c options and insulation. Almost all of them just wanted to replace my existing a/c or heater, most without even looking at my ducts or insulation, never mind alternative options. EPB performed air sealing, replacement of existing traditional heating cooling system to a highly efficient ducted mini split system (no this is not with large room cassettes) performed air sealing, installed a heat recovery ventilation system with separate ducting, replaced my gas water heater with a high efficiency electric water heater (enabling me to get off gas completely and switch to a more friendly electric pg&e billing plan) and finally did wall and attic insulation. They performed extensive testing before and after and presented me with a plan of improvements. They also handled all the rebate documentation for us. The work took them just over 3 weeks to complete, this over Christmas and New Years! Their customer service was top notch with every employee I came in contact with. I could not recommend these guys more highly. These guys set a major standard in construction in so many ways. Some of what my wife really liked about them was how clean, polite, considerate and efficient they were. They were always within their time frame (when we booked them months in advance they told us the date and time they would start work and they made it exactly on that date and time!) and they worked within their stated hours

We own a single story rancher in Pleasant Hill that only had a wall furnace, and no air conditioning. After shopping around for an HVAC company and getting numerous quotes for standard systems we decided to see what Eco Performance Builders would be able to offer us as well. After the energy audit we were pleasantly surprised that the 3 options they presented us were not only in the same price range as the other quotes we had seen, but included a lot more work, including the attic cleanout, sealing, and a bathroom fan. We decided to choose the option that was not only most energy efficient but also included wall insulation after going over everything with Kyle. The crew worked at our house for almost 3 weeks (in very hot September weather) getting everything cleaned out and installed, while most other companies told us the work would be completed in 3 days. We really enjoyed the entire crew - they were respectful and clean, and Bill the foreman is awesome. After the work was completed we were incredibly happy with how comfortable the house is in both warm and cool conditions. The air quality is also greatly improved and we couldn't be happier. Our electric bill also didn't increase significantly which was another great reason to choose Eco Performance. We will definitely have them back for other things, like our hot water heater, etc.

Amazing experience with Keith and Erik. We're in a newer home with a fujitsu AC that just stopped working. None of the codes made any sense and none of the simple trouble shooting tricks gave results that made sense. Our AC and it's troubles were a mystery. Keith and Erik worked tirelessly to find the issue. Their customer support, good humor and product knowledge was simply the best. If we could give them 10 stars we would. I would recommend them to anyone, even my elderly parents. Eco Performance Builders are the best!

Kyle and the team at Eco Performance were responsive, professional, knowledgeable, and patient (with our expanding timeline). They conducted a thorough energy audit, installed our heating/cooling system, and insulated both underfloor and in the attic space. Most helpfully, Kyle helped us navigate the PGE rebate program. Of all the work we have been doing, they have been at the top of our list for quality work and business practices.

I moved into a 100-year old home a couple months ago and wanted insulation in my sub area. I called around and looked at recommendations and had a long conversation with Eco performance builders one evening. Since I knew this relatively drafty house would fail a blower test I wanted to just cut to the chase and install insulation. The guys came today to do the work and did a beautiful job. It was superquick, very well-managed, the bill came very quickly afterwards, I can pay electronically, they totally understand that this is about energy savings, protecting the environment, and a more comfortable home. As an extensively trained real estate broker with eco-broker certification, I really appreciate working with a team that understands the concepts and, for instance, and won't put insulation right up against knob and tube wiring!

We have been doing a big remodel on a fixer-upper in south Berkeley and we feel really lucky to have found EPB. Kyle, who was in charge of our project, was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and competent. Bill, the on-site point person, was also a pleasure to work with. Clear communication, high quality work, fair prices. They also did all of the paperwork for the energy evaluation and PGE Home Upgrade rebates, which came through even slightly higher than estimated. The work they did for us: tankless water heater, air sealing, attic insulation, floor insulation, cathedral ceiling insulation, and some wall insulation. Highly recommended!

Eco Performance Builders did an excellent job of assisting me to replace my old heater in Livermore, Calif and add air conditioning. They conducted an energy assessment which provided the information required to correctly size units and infrastructure required to heat and cool the home. Using the information from the audit they recommended several options I could choose from and spent time discussing the pros and cons of each choice. Once I made my choices Eco Performance Builders obtained all the permits and facilitated the rebates I was eligible for. I lived in the home for 30 years with two heater replacements. It was never comfortable despite putting in double paned windows. The Eco Performance Builders solution to heating and cooling my home has greatly increased the comfort level and we are all very pleased. The work was done quickly and efficiently and all work areas were left clean and in order.

So glad I went with EPB! Kyle and Bill are great project managers, communicate clearly and consistently, and respond quickly and thoroughly. (When ever I had a question I knew I could call or email one of them and get things addressed immediately. Even though EPB schedule was full, they made me feel like my project was important and still done with the best efforts and maximum attention and quality. The rest of the team on my project - Jorje, Tom, Kevin, and a few others from EPB whose names I did not catch, the tapers and rockers Brad and his crew, and the EPB office staff are also fantastic - pleasant and professional, quick to respond, and knowledgeable. I also was super security conscious because I have two indoor cats; everyone was very respectful, making sure that the furries did not escape, and that doors and gates were locked at the end of the day. And everything was really cleaned up pretty thoroughly during stages and at the end of the job. My spaces look gorgeous, my house is cozy (the true test will be summer, of course; I will try to do an update), the air smells/feels better if I do have the house closed up, and my Fujitsu units are so quiet! Thank you, thank you, thank you to Eco Performance Builders and their contractors. You helped make my house into more of my dream house!

Communication, Punctuality, Professionalism and Courtesy, Customer care and satisfaction: 5/5 stars on all of it! * Project: Home air sealing, Crawlspace Vapor Barrier; Attic clean up and blow-in cellulose insulation; Replace old gas furnace with electric Heat Pump system; installed new air vents and duct work; absestos removal. We first got in touch with Kyle B., who came to the house for an initial assessment. Then we started exchanging emails about game plan, we went back and forth for a while. I am very hands-on and involved, so I wanted to research every single item, he would send me to be fully informed of all of our options. He was very knowledgeable of every possible scenarios, gas, electric, he even gave us detailed information on product they wouldn't have been involved in (radiant heating systems on ceilings for example). In other words, Kyle was not pushy at all, he cared more about our home comfort than making his sale. We felt bad that we dragged the process for so many months before committing (probably around 6 months), but we didn't want to jump into any decision before knowing all of the possibilities and the best option for us. We wanted it to be our decision. Kyle was very understanding and never showed any sign of frustration or impatience. He was very professional and always wrote detailed emails with pros and cons of different systems. We worked together to come up with the most ideal one for our home. We are very pleased with the process involved before the actual work was done. ON-SITE WORK AND TEAM: Bill N.was our project manager. Keith F., Cody J.; Jorge, Tommy and Ryan were some of the guys who came to the work site. Every single team member was courteous and friendly. They seem to all be working well together, I could ask questions to anyone and they all has answers. On day 1, they told us their start and end work hours to make sure we were ok with them. They had trucks and vans with material deliveries, but the team was very consid

If I could put more stars, I would! Doing an energy upgrade is an expensive decision, and most people wonder if the energy savings is going to be worth the upfront investment into the project. (It will take so many years, but eventually it will) Finally decided to go for it anyways to live comfortably. So glad we did! The comfort is pretty much immediately noticeable, even when it's 100 degrees outside it's cool inside. Also, feels good inside to know that we are being responsible citizens by using less energy and leaving less carbon footprint. Two months into the summer, we are already seeing significant reduction in energy consumption. The crew work so hard! Arrived daily at 7am, and always respectful and meticulously covers involved areas and clean up after themselves. There's one person assigned to manage your particular project (for us, it was Bill) and he kept in communication daily on the progress. Everyone very patiently answers questions -- from the audit and consultation by Kyle to daily progress by Bill and other members of the team. Highly recommend! Very professional.
