First of all, if you have an older home, don't do geothermal. It does not work well with most older homes that almost always have heat loss issues. Secondly, if you do choose geo, pick anyone but Total Energy Concepts. Once they have received full payment, they are done. They flat out do not care after being paid. Short of a warranty claim, they are done and absolutely do not want to hear from you unless you are singing praises. Here's what they did for us... - Made a massive measurement mistake while digging the trench and had to scramble to come up with another area to trench so they could make up for their mistake. They proceeded to rush the rest of the loop install while screaming and cursing at one another and damaging trees. Very professional. - Sold us on getting another room zoned, then talked us out of it after having already charged us, then offered up a pathetic refund that was nowhere near what they had already charged us. Just as well, as they wanted to install ductwork outside the house. - Their technician that hooks everything up electrically is not even an electrician or certified. - During the summer, the system struggled to maintain the set point of 75. They sent a guy out, said everything was fine. It was just too dang hot out! - Going into fall, we noticed the loop temp already dropping into the 30's. Their response? No problem, the ground just needs to warm up after having been open to the elements during the installation in spring. Hmm... More BS. - We were told we would basically never need aux heat. It can not maintain a set point over 70 when it is near 35 degrees without aux heat. - Big surprise... Winter was an expensive disaster. Contrary to their BS, our bills were nearly as high as they were when we had 2 x 4 ton worn out 20 year old Carrier heat pumps! - Massive ground heaving that began in mid winter. The entire loop field is frozen (28-29f loop). Imagine an elevated hump over the entire loop that is full of massive cracks. S
About 10-11 years ago we learned about geothermal (technically ground-sourced heat pump) heating and cooling, and decided it might be a worthwhile investment to reduce heating bills and energy use. We met with and received bids from 3 different companies, and are very happy that we went with TEC. They're a family-owned business with long-time employees, and they take pride in their work. They quoted us a bigger unit/bigger loop than the other 2 companies (because it's better to have a safety margin when it gets cold), and at a competitive price. Since switching to geo (from propane heating) our home is much more comfortable, and we save a few thousand dollars in heating/cooling each year. The system paid for itself in 5-8 years. If you have more cost-efficient heating than we did (eg natural gas line), your payoff may be slower. I understand the payoff is even faster for larger homes. The warranty, reliability, and service have been excellent. In 10+ years we've had 2 repairs and 1 maintenance visit. One repair was a motor warranty issue, and we haven't been charged for any of the visits. TEC was always responsive even though we're all the way up in the Seattle area. I highly recommend geothermal systems and Total Energy Concepts for homeowners in the PNW.
Thought we had a problem with our Geo system. Called Total Energy Concepts and they ended up giving us advice over the phone (free of charge) that helped us resolve our issue! Classy customer service wins customers! Would not hesitate to call.
A quality provider with great service and impeccable skills. They stand above the crowd. I recommend them highly!
