I suppose the downside of a solo owner/operator is when he doesn’t answer calls, texts or emails then there is no one else to call. Upstairs unit he installed went out two days ago. Been calling, texting and emailing for over 24 hours with no response. Another company said they would do their beet to squeeze me in. It if they do it may void my warranty with Schafer so they suggest getting ahold of him. Problem is, upstairs is 86 degrees and he isn’t responding :(.

I have used Shafer Heating and Air to install two complete HVAC systems at two different homes, along with regular repair/maintenance over the past 8-years. Each time they fixed problems economically without any upsell. They only do what is required and fix things that don’t work, rather than try and sell completely new high-cost systems or service. I have found them to be knowledgeable and truthful in everything they tell me, and EXTREMELY trustworthy with their work quality and pricing. I research everything heavily and have not found them telling me any stories, half-truths or lies, like many other HVAC people have. The owner does the work and brings very nice folks to help him. Its rare to get such service from the actual owner and its extremely refreshing. I HIGHLY recommend Shafer Heating and Air. I don’t think you will be disappointed with any of their services. They offer wonderful HVAC repair/replacement at an outstanding value!
I needed a HVAC unit replaced in my house. I called around several big name companies and even met with reps from Casteel and Coolray but they seemed really "pitchy". One even scribbled some numbers on a piece of paper as a "quote"! Then I remembered Leonard from when I attended Southside Church. I had him come out and take a look. Within a day or so, he emailed me a quote that was competitive with the 5 (yes 5!) others I had gotten. It took me some time to secure the funds but finally got the work scheduled. I have a demanding job so I couldn't be around while the work was being performed but I totally felt comfortable with Leonard and his crew working at my house alone. They did a great job on the install and provide an excellent warranty on their work. If you're in thw market for a new unit or repairs, dont waste time calling every contractor like I did. Just call Leonard!!!
I'm from Alaska and have severe breathing problems, so when the a/c dies in summer, it's actually a life or death situation. We have used Shafer for 12 years now exclusively. They have always provided us immediate and thorough service, no matter the time of year, birthdays, holidays, or weather. Even their pricing is absolutely reasonable. They honor warranties and cover any accidents themselves without additional cost to you. Everyone at Shafer will answer any questions you might have, and show you the part and how/why it malfunctioned so you can see with your own eyes. They don't linger awkwardly when the job is done, and are willing to do payment arrangements when you're in a pinch. Honestly, could you ask for anything more out of a company? Choosing Shafer was one of the best decisions I've ever made and they are worth your call!
Installed two new heat pumps. He was referred to me by a friend, and was very reasonably priced. Had a problem after a few months, on a cold December night after regular business hours. He was in the middle of a family holiday event, but he came right out and took care of it. A wire had rubbed through the insulation and shorted out.
I contacted Shafer Heating and Air Conditioning at 7:30 pm on a Tuesday night and the repair guys were at my house by 10:30 am the next morning. My AC was fixed and I am enjoying the cool air. Great job.
Keeps it cool
This was a very disappointing service. They were recommended by a neighbor, but when they came to do service, the technician didn't leave any paperwork on the problem, or an estimate on the cost for the repair. He also said he changed filters and capacitor, but did neither. I had to make several calls to find out what the issue with the system was and then I couldn't get any type of estimate on the labor. Then just two weeks later, the unit that was working, was out of Freon, frozen over and not working. This is after the tech said Freon was good- that was stated on the invoice I had to call to request. After speaking with the owner, he said they couldn't see me til Friday, three days away. After I spent the day calling and texting to confirm he was coming, he answered my call at 7pm at night. He said after checking his schedule, he didn't think he was ever going to be able fit me in his schedule. He was not going to send anyone to follow up or check on the issues his tech left in his wake. He then yelled at me to ask how I even knew the unit wasn't working, did I have someone else look at it, and how do I know that they didn't break it. He also said that he didn't want my business. I told him I was going to leave it alone and hire another company, but I would share my experiences so others would be wary. As a side note, someone else who used them said they didn't do a good job either, having to make extra trips and overcharging for Freon.
