Rory from Northwind was great to work with. My wife and I rent out a condo in Wrigleyville that I owned from before we got married. Our tenant called me on a Sunday evening in July to report that the AC stopped functioning. We were quoted what seemed like a very high price to replace the HVAC unit from a large corporate HVAC company that is well-known from frequent TV ads. Rory responded to me within minutes of reaching out to him on a Sunday evening. He was courteous, responsive, and communicative. He arranged to come out for an estimate the next day in less than 12 hours. Rory was very knowledge and straightforward. He is eco-friendly and teaches classes about HVAC repair and replacement. He quoted a much fairer price. Highly recommended. Thank you Rory!
Rory was very professional and quick to respond to my request for service after another HVAC company botched previous service to my system. Rory reviewed and analyzed the problem. He was very patient and explained all components to my understanding. The job required him to return the next day for the final fix. My AC is working fine now. I wish I would have contacted Northwind from the get go. Thank you Northwind/Rory.
Rory understands the latest in heating and cooling systems. He installed a new furnace and a heat pump on time (actually completed earlier than promised). The new thermostat is “smart” and seems better at controlling temperatures in the variable spring Chicago area weather. He was considerate of being in/out of the house with tarps and such, as well as taking the old equipment away for recycling. TheBosch heat pump is working great and we believe it will help manage utility costs too.
We recently replaced our a/c with a heat pump to offset our gas costs in the winter. Rory and the team at Northwind were great! They got the new system all set up in one day with no fuss. They're super knowledgeable and easy to work with.
The owner, Rory, does what other HVAC contractors don't. He listens and works with you. Instead of being fleeced and ignored, he worked with me to fix the airflow to my first floor. I will never call another HVAC company, when you discover a contractor like Rory, you keep them in your phone for life. My experience is as follows: The airflow to my first floor of a three story townhouse was so bad the previous owner installed an electric wall heater. I was sure there was something that could be fixed because other units had working airflow and have the same layout. I tried to get other HVAC companies to come look but they either gave me absurd prices or claimed they couldn't do it. I went to Rory's HVAC class at the rebuilding exchange as I was just going to do it myself but he offered to give a consultation and I took up that offer. Other companies wanted to redo the entire airflow system in my house for tens of thousands of dollars, even though the other floors worked perfectly fine. Rory and I opened a few walls and easily discovered what the issue was. I did the demo work and in a single day Rory had installed the ducting. We even tried a few different configurations to get the airflow right. I no longer need that electric wall heater and I saved thousands of dollars on work that wouldn't have even been necessary. Don't bother calling other HVAC companies, they don't try to understand the problem and only think about how they can rake you over the coals for more money.
