Gene from Modern Home Heat and Cooling installed a new Mini-split system in our home in a single day. He gave me a proposal and kept to his pricing. Gene arrived on time for the installation and stayed late to complete the job knowing warm weather was coming soon. Additionally Gene instructed my family in setting up the system and how to maintain it. Thank you, Gene for a job well done.
Gene was very helpful and informative on what we needed to repair our system. It turns out ( we have a fairly new home) our system wasn’t installed properly by the builder, and our heat exchanger died after 3 years. Gene replaced the exchanger and added proper duct work to accommodate the size of our furnace. He also fixed the pitch of the unit so it wouldn’t happen again. We wished Modern had done the install in the first place!!
Although I was informed that their services were booked tightly when I first called, they said they would try to fit me in. Within days, I was called back with start date of only a couple of weeks from my initial call. When the start date arrived, so did Gene - on time, professionly dressed and prepared with the materials he would need that day (so tired of being told that technicians need to go buy a part when they had come and given me an estimate prior AND bill me for the trip to Lowes and back..). Throughout the installation process, Gene was extremely prompt, knowledgable and professional. He amended the original installation plan, suggesting an alternative solution when I unexpectedly needed to decrease the size of my budget. All work was meticulously completed, on the timeline originally proposed. I was invited to be involved verbally with each step of the process. Gene was highly professional at all times and I was impressed with his continuous effort to provide the utmost quality work. I would very highly recommend Modern Home Heating and Cooling to those who expect to be informed daily on progress, to be asked after each visit if there are any questions or concerns about the work done that day, to not have to worry about the provider's skills and experience (or lack of) and to have work areas left spotless. Kudos to the company/Gene for fully living up to their mission statement!
First off I just want to say Gene did an amazing job installing our new furnace and central AC unit. He was very professional, friendly, clean, neat and went out of his way to discuss and recommend what we needed for our size house. He stayed on the job till it was done and only left for lunch. He was very timely and prompt. We couldn't have asked for a better guy to do this job. My furnace and AC was the original that came with our house from the late 60's and he knew exactly what needed to be done and was very conscious of doing everything to Code. He only sells top quality name brand equipment, so you can have peace of mind that you are getting what you pay for. I could not recommend him and his company enough. If you want a top quality furnace and or AC unit installed, look no further, this is the company you need to call.
Gene came promptly and fixed my central air conditioner. The A/C system is running much better now. It isn’t running all the time like it was before and the house is much cooler. Thanks again!
We reached out to Gene with two days before 95 degree weather was coming, and he responded quickly and was able to come, diagnose, and solve our AC problem just in time! He was very thorough in figuring out what went wrong and great about explaining what he did to diagnose it and how he arrived at his conclusions, and then what the options were to address the issues he found (including a minimal approach to get it going enough for the weather). Great experience and will likely contact again for any future work.
I can’t say enough about how great Gene was with out emergency repair. He was able to get to the house within the hour and had our heat working by lunch. He was beyond respectful and professional. I’d recommend Modern Home Heating and Cooling to everyone. He’ll be our go-to person in the future!
After mistakingly running out of heating oil (oops), resulting in a furnace/boiler that wouldn't start, I tried calling a different service provider who said the earliest they could help would be after the holidays, maybe Wednesday the following week... not great when I didn't have heat or hot water. Instead I turned to Gene for my heating system's repair/maintenance, who not only responded to a text immediately, but also came on-site just a couple hours after I texted him. As I'm a new homeowner, through his work, Gene taught me how the heating system of my house works so I'm now more informed. Pricing was reasonable and as quoted! I would definitely recommend and will go to Modern Home Heating and Cooling for any future services I may need.
One of my thermostats wasn’t working and I found Modern Home Heating and Cooling through a Facebook post I wrote looking for help. I got a quick reply that they could come out first thing the next morning. Wasn’t expecting such quick service. Gene arrived when he said he would and was very professional. He explained what the issue with my heating system was and fixed it in no time. My heat is back working and I couldn’t recommend Modern Home enough for anyone needing HVAC maintenance or repairs. The price was reasonable too.
I had a great experience having a new boiler installed by Gene at Modern Home Heating! His work was top-notch, and reasonably priced. When the work was done, he charged what he had quoted us and has followed up consistently to make sure that we are happy and comfortably with our new heating system. I highly recommend.

We were in need of a new furnace and some duct repair work in our home. I found Modern Home Heating and Cooling via a facebook ad and contacted Gene via the webstie. Within an hour I was receiving a call from him to set up an estimate. He spent two hours going through all my options and within days we had a formal proposal. I had a few modifications to add and Gene took care of these quickly. His installation was fast, on budget and thorough. He kept coming back and tweaking and making everything just right. We really apprciated his professionalism and willingness to make sure everything was just right. We can not recommend him enough and intend to use his company for all our future HVAC needs.
This company installed mini splits on three different floors. There were four mini splits installed and two compressors. I was referred to Modern Home Heating and Cooling by another professional in the field who had installed my boiler and who has been in business for many years, so I trusted the referral. Larry Engholm, the owner of Modern Home Heating and Cooling, did a thorough evaluation, discussed options with me, and gave an accurate estimate of the cost prior to any any work. Because I live in a condo, a number of things had to be presented to the Board prior to any approval. Larry was so thorough in what he presented to the Board, that the Board approved my request at the same meeting in which the request was submitted...a rare event, since requests usually take longer to evaluate. Larry was friendly, honest, and very particular about his work. He and my contractor who did some finish work collaborated well. The finished product was outstanding. The electrical inspection by the town was a breeze because of the excellent work done. My neighbor had mini splits put in and Larry Engholm's work far surpassed that work. I would highly recommend Modern Home Heating and Cooling.

I received excellent service from Gene. He will be my first call from now on. One of our ductless Mini-split systems was not producing reliably cold air. I was recommended Gene by a friend, and after a quick call, I had an appointment scheduled for the following week. Gene confirmed the appointment several days before, and arrived early on the day of the service. He quickly diagnosed the issue and remedied it within a few hours. One of the highlights of working with him was his ability to easily communicate things in a way that I could understand. I highly recommend Modern Home Heating and Cooling.
We hired Modern Home to move a propane gas line in our kitchen to accommodate a new stove, and they were excellent. Gene was very professional and knowledgeable, and did a great job of explaining what we needed as well as some of the things to look out for moving forward. In addition to moving the gas line, the inspector asked us to replace a hose on the hot water tank to get it up to code which Modern Home was able to do! They went above and beyond, and most importantly at a great price. Definitely will be using them again soon.
I have used Modern Home Heating and Cooling to service and repair my furnace and recently to install ductless cooling to my entire house. I heard through a friend that the owner, Gene Engholm was very reliable, trustworthy, conscientious and that he did excellent work so I decided to hire him and I'm very happy I did. He genuinely cares about keeping costs down without sacrificing expert workmanship. I can't ever remember having someone demonstrate so much concern about my needs, taking extra measures to ensure I would have a quality product that would last years and years. He's seriously more concerned about providing the best products and service than he is about his own profit margin. It is rare to find such a caring, reliable and skilled professional in these times. I was very impressed with Modern Home Heating and Cooling. They installed a new oil tank in a historic property in Portsmouth, NH for me. They had to drain oil from the old oil tank, remove the tank, and the install a new oil tank and refill the fuel. Also serviced was an older boiler with multiple issues. Affordable and competitively priced, the technicians took pride in their work.
Modern Home Heating and Cooling is the best local option around for HVAC services. They aren't just reasonably priced, but they offer quality work done by quality people that are willing to provide you with all the information upfront and answer questions along the way. I appreciated their patience and promptness, we were able to get them to come out in less than a week to service our boiler and get a quote for additional services. That is hard to find anywhere else right now with home services being booked out for months due to COVID!
