By far the most professional person in this industry I have ever worked with after 15 years of homeownership. No shady tactics, super knowledgable, he can isolate problems really quickly and he's worth every dollar of his time. This is now the second or third time we have had to call him, and this is my first review. If you live in the area, this is the person you wanna work with when you're heating or air conditioner stops working.
John was great. Very responsive, arrived on time, very straight shooter and told me exactly what needed to be done and how much it would cost...then delivered. I've had some pretty horrific experiences with HVAC companies being unwilling to repair vs always forcing their agenda to "replace" at 5-10x the cost. Good for them....not for me. John was the antithesis of that approach, and was quite frankly, very refreshing. If you have not called John's number on his website and listened to his perspective on HVAC industry ...you should. It's 5-10 minutes that is well worth your time.
Just had John in to repair a relatively new heating unit that was affected by a high-voltage strike. Found him to be very knowledgeable and thorough in his approach and very methodical in troubleshooting the various issues on the unit. Very good communication skills and easy to work with. He was able to restore the system to full operation rather quickly. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.
Excellent experience! John is skilled, straightforward, and generous with his knowledge. He was supportive of our desire to understand how our HVAC works and gave us great maintenance tips. We will be going out of our way to recommend him to anyone who needs HVAC help in the area!
John was easy to deal with. He was pragmatic and upfront with costs. Over the phone, he worked to see if he could help me to fix it and avoid a service call. He kept us updated with the appointment status and let us know what was working, what wasn't and what might go wrong in the future. He definitely was not into upselling, just advising on what could or could not go wrong.
I called this business based on the excellent reviews I saw on Nextdoor. John answered my call and somehow managed to fit me in on the same day. He worked on my 33 year old furnace diagnosing and explaining step by step what he was finding and what it meant (as well as the costs associated with each part). He was able to repair or replace parts during this visit (with out the usual hassle I have had with other repair people who need to order parts to complete the repair). My old furnace seems to be working well and the issue for which I called him (a burning smell) seems to be resolved. I would not hesitate to recommend this company and John.
The quote from the business owner that is posted on Yelp says: "Hang around and watch. You'll definitely learn something." And John didn't disappoint. He got right to the heart of the problem via his diagnostic expertise, and explained what he was thinking at each step in ways that were clear and concise. He will definitely be our first call in the future for HVAC services in the Concord area.
John of High Performance Heating & Air is a top-notch HVAC expert! He recently came by to fix our furnace and his work was excellent. He arrived on time and was very professional and honest. He quickly diagnosed the issue and had our furnace fixed in a mere 30 minutes. John is fantastic. He rescued me two years ago when our furnace stopped working in a cold Concord January. Then yesterday, my thermostat had an error message that I couldn't fix, and he graciously came by early before his work day started and fixed it right up. I love the way John will try do an over-the-phone fix for you, and if that doesn't work, he will gladly explain what is going on while he is working. It's fascinating to watch someone so competent at work, plus he is just a really nice guy with a good sense of humor. You won't be disappointed.

I have used High Performance Heating & Air several times. I called on a Friday regarding a horrible sound coming from my central air conditioner and John was here on Monday. He was able to pinpoint the broken part and replace it on the spot. A/C is now running great with no more horrible noises. High Performance Heating & Air is the only company I use for all my heating and air maintenance and repairs. John knows his stuff and more than that he is honest and straightforward with all information regarding the situation.
We have been using High Performance for the last 10 years or more for all of A/C and heating issues. John is very honest and fair in his pricing and his knowledge of HVAC systems is at a high level. He was quick to act on our needs even though he was swamped with others needing his services during this incredible heat wave. We are thankful for John and will continue using him in the future. Tomorrow would be another 100+ degree day (of a week long heat wave) and my air conditioning compressor died at about 9pm. I emailed John and he called me first thing the next morning. By some miracle, he managed to fit me into an already packed schedule. He was highly professional, straightforward about his pricing, and a wealth of knowledge. Very grateful that he was able to resolve my issue and especially appreciated the guidance he provided along the way.
I can't recommend John at High Performance Heating and Air highly enough. He is a perfect model of how everyone should run their business. My air conditioner stopped working during the heat wave of 9/2022 and 1.5 days before I had to leave the country for a long biz trip. I wasn't exactly excited to leave my family home alone without air conditioning. I figured he would be very busy, and he indeed was and not able to come over for several days. So, John helped me diagnose the problem by text msg and video, and knew exactly what was wrong (a bad capacitor) from the video I sent him. Being a fairly handy guy, I told him I could replace it myself. Of course, he had the exact part I needed in his van and offered to sell it to me. It worked perfectly for me to meet him as he was in transit between jobs. He charged me a VERY reasonable price for the stellar troubleshooting help and part. When all was said and done, I had the part replaced and a working AC again within just a few hours--feeling much better about leaving my family on their own.
John communicates well and has a resourceful website that adds transparency to the repair you are faced with. I went straight to him and this based on nextdoor recommendations and after speaking with him. Note, he answered the phone Sunday afternoon and we made an appointment for Monday morning. And this was right before the heatwave. He logically went through troubleshooting the issue and completed the repair within 1.5 hrs. all for a fair price based on what was listed on his website. He has an inventory of common parts needed in his van. This was to replace furnace blower plus a couple of preventative parts as his was up in the attic and it made sense to address them as well.
If you are concerned about honesty and integrity in your home system maintenance, look no further than John at High Performance. Twice now I have called John, on a weekend, and received a call back within 30 minutes. Yes, on Sunday morning! Both times John walked me through possible causes of the problem and fixes...both of which worked! When your heater isn't working in the winter and your A/C isn't working in the summer, you almost expect to be taken advantage of or at least made to wait forever. John has exceeded every expectation and one of these days we will have him out for a real paid visit! He is one of a kind! Thank you!!
John did our AC unit check up a few months prior and did an impeccable job, providing such detailed and honest feedback throughout the entire process. A few months later we had an issue arise with our unit and he came right away to check out the issue no questions asked, and let me know that the visit was under warranty. I don’t know if such service exists in the industry elsewhere- we trust his opinion 100% and are so grateful for his honesty, time, and excellent work. Highly recommend his services, you won’t find another company like his and I’ve met many of the other top rated companies.
John is the best! For the second time he gave me some great advice over the phone and I was able to resolve the problem myself for free. Really knowledgeable, upfront and honest guy. At this point I wish I needed him to fix something just so I could give him some money.
John is very honest, he doesn't oversell things, he does what's required for your system to run smoothly and safely. His technical background and work experience is impressive. He is very thorough, explains everything what he does on the system and proves his words by measurements. I called John to have a second opinion after another company (one of the biggest on our area) had told me I have a refrigerant leak I need to replace the whole unit. John figured out there was no leak at all, the system has a lot of refrigerant (and probably a little bit too much) and showed me the numbers on his meter to proof that. Safety disconnect box was in a bad shape though, so John did replace it to a new one for much less amount of money than another company quoted. The long story short, I found my reliable HVAC repair professional, and highly recommend John if you need one.
Our ''very old'' heating system all of the sudden not working properly. I've tried a few other companies before finding John, most of them told me is not repairable or time to replace a new one (quoted me from $20k to 30k to replace the heating system), some told me if will take them some time to find the parts (but not guarantee to find it) and cost approx. $1,200 or more to repair. I found John from Next Door, the near by neighbor recommended him, mentioned he specialized HVAC / AC repair, so I called John and explained the problems and showed some photos to him. He returned my call within an hour and told me what the problems were and he got the parts available right away (so this means most of the previous companies I called were not telling me the truth, they just want to make money from installing new heating system). So appt was scheduled the same week, problem fix. Price was exactly what John mentioned on the phone (less than $600). Can't be happier with the result. Highly recommend.
