Scott was a life saver. I live in a three story townhome and my a/c went out. I discussed the issue over the phone and he came within 30 minutes and had my a/c back up and running within the hour. He is an expert in his field with 20+ years experience. Grateful and thankful are understatements for the work he completed. If you need affordable, professional, and proficient work choose his company!!!!!!!

I just had a question about a old A/C unit I have, most companies wouldn't help, I called Backriver and they answered the question fast and very knowledgeably. No money involved and they still helped out, wonderful company.
I had a complete A/C unit installation with the condenser, furnace, and exterior compressor all installed. The work was profesional with quality equipment and the entire place swept clean afterwards. The cost was reasonable; best I found in the area. The guys were polite, respectful, and courteous. This is a top notch business ran by a family (3 generations!) who CARE ABOUT THE WORK THEY DO. You don't find that everywhere, especially the big businesses. Give these guys a try; you'll be happy you did.
hands down best company and service that i've experienced here in hampton roads. fixed the heater by finding the issue and really fixing it rather than doing a band aid solution that ive seen other heating and cooling companies do. 5/5/ recommend 5/5 would call again for service.

Amazing company. You won’t find better quality at a lower price. When my system finally died they were at least $1000 cheaper then the other 3 estimates and definitely seemed to be the most knowledgeable. I could not be happier with my new system and I would recommend them to anyone.
Great experience working with Lance and Backriver C&H. Selected over 4 other proposals. Best value for the money, not to mention a professional replacement of my 26 year old home cooling system. Will not hesitate to use them for all my HVAC needs.
I met and spoke with Scott on several occasions and he proved to me that he's as honest and knowledgeable as they come, and the most helpful HVAC pro I've ever come across. His rates are also very reasonable and among the lowest compared to others in the area. I really can't say enough great things about these guys. I had an issue with my '06 heat pump tripping the breaker repeatedly, and while other contractors simply wanted to replace the compressor or entire unit, Scott wanted to do things the right way and find the root-cause before replacing expensive parts. On several occasions, he took time out of his busy schedule to talk me through (over the phone) possible repair options that I could do myself. His concerns always had the customer in mind and he saved me thousands of dollars. For that, I'll never use another HVAC contractor in this area.
Awesome father son team! Gave us the best price out of 4 businesses to replace our AC. Everything done as said and cleaned up. Later they repaired, patiently as it was a weird problem, but fixed the problem at a reasonable price. Would recommend and use again!
They charged me for labor AND a service call without communicating the charges. Why is there labor hooking up gages? I had a discussion with them and they refused to remove the extra charge. Nobody else in industry has this charge. I'm a landlord and I've never seen this. Also... I also asked them what the charge was for Freon. Of course they told me a low fee of $45 per pound, but they FAILED to tell me about the three pound minimum charge. In the end, they charged me nearly $300 for 1.5 pounds of Freon. He seemed like a nice guy but had very sneaky hidden fees and was EXTREMELY argumentative when I told him about the issue. I have rental properties and this was the most I've ever been charged for freon refill. They removed one pound of freon from the bill but I'll never go back.
