Best HVAC company you could ever go with in the bay area. Extremely polite and professional. Fair pricing on fixing ac's and installing them when the time comes. Any time we had an issue with our old ac he was always Johnny on the spot and quick to come by and fix it.
We met John a couple of years ago and he was amazing at diagnostics with our air conditioner. Well, our air conditioner completely about down last weekend (temp was at 109 degrees). We reached out to John and he was here within 48 hours. He performed a complete system check and our air conditioner is Running like new. He deserves 10 stars.
During the heat wave of June 2021, our AC unit stopped turning on. After 3 other AC repair companies came and told us "it's just a dirty air filter" we called John (the owner). He showed up within 30 minutes, thoroughly inspected the unit that wasn't turning on, identified the problem and fixed it within 30 minutes. We were impressed by his knowledge, and his care for us as customers. When it's 100+ for multiple days, and the owner shows up at a moments notice, you know he cares about his customers. Thank you John for reminding us that we are not crazy even though others told us "it's just a dirty air filter"
In January, I hired John and his people to install another heating and cooling system for me. I was very satisfied with their quality performance and customer service in my previous experience. Again, they delivered another professional job and took care of problems fairly and quickly. John and his team was responsive when getting a quote and through out the installation process for a new AC and new furnace. I got a schedule within a week which was great considering it was middle of summer. Fast forward almost two months later and there are still remaining deliverables that were included in the quote that I have yet to receive.
Competitive price, but far superior value. John and his team were professional and very trustworthy, making sure to not sell us anything we didn't need and willing to help and go above and beyond what anyone would expect. Fantastic job and I would highly recommend.
Air Performance first came to our "rescue" in 2016. Bit of back story to set the scenario. Made the mistake of replacing our AC compressor/coil by purchasing through a "big box" shop who subcontracted to an installer (not a "local" installer as the big box shop consolidated installers to save money and the subcontractor subcontracted as well). Nightmare install (and it wasn't the least expensive bid), plus I now had a bit of a Frankenstein system of mis-matched components (didn't replace the furnace) in age and manufacturer. 12 months later, AC didn't work. Months of back and forth with big box shop (who had since fired the installer) and manufacturer) to get the AC working. Rinse and repeat for the next 2 years. Became routine to call late Spring each year to fix our "new" broken AC. That went on for 3 years until the big box store's installation warranty expired. Once the big box shop exited from the picture, the manufacturer recommended Air Performance. John came out in 2016 and got us up and running. In 2017 AC wasn't as cold as the previous year, so John came out again, hunted for a leak, added a leak sealant and we were good. Spring 2020. Turn on the AC on the first hot day and we hear a strange noise at the outside compressor as well as strange sounds coming from the attic. Give John a call, he comes out, checks the furnace and the compressor and identifies the issue as a damaged compressor. I knew my options. Replace the compressor/coil (AGAIN) and mate it with a now 23+ year old furnace (to reduce expense, but also create another mis-matched unit) or replace it all. I knew the right thing to do was replace the furnace as well to give me a complete, new and matched system. I was just bummed that after 7 years I'm doing part of this all over again. John said his team would make it right, do the install the way it should have been and provide a system that would heat/cool as designed. Sounds simple and that's what I thought I was purchasing

Our 18 year old Trane furnace stopped working. The controller board had failed in the furnace. Called Air Performance and talked to John (the owner). He agreed to order the replacement part, and we set up an appointment to repair the furnace. John arrived on time, and was able to quickly repair the furnace. While here, he also serviced our AC unit, and replaced a capacitor that was degraded. Saved us an emergency appointment during the summer. John was very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, responsive, and honest.
Air Performance Heating & Cooling was one of 4 HVAC companies I contacted about replacing my system. I installed solar in 2018 and faced with replacing my HVAC system, decided to look into getting a heat pump to take advantage of my energy production. Each company gave me different information about what I should do creating much confusion. John was able to answer all my questions and gave me reasonable solutions. He gave me several options that were easy to understand and helped me decide on the right system for my house and Air Performance's price was very competitive. I've got a hybrid gas/heat pump system that will take advantage of my solar power, but will use gas when the temperature is below 40 degrees. His crew were timely, neat and pleasant. The installation took longer than was estimated, but I have an old house that brought up problems that were all solved by the end of the project. Follow-up has been great. Every time I've had a question, John gets right back with help. My system is working beautifully. It's quiet and efficient. I believe my energy costs will be less this winter with this new system in place. Five stars!

We just installed the whole new A/C system including replacing new furnace this month. I chose Trane because of it's reliability and owner's satisfaction. Among the several proposals, Air Performance Heating & Cooling turns out the best in turn of pricing and consumer recommendation. John Freij, who is the owner of the company, knowledgeable, professional, and amazing person. He answered all of my technical questions before, and after the installation. He even asked Trane tech support to get answers to my questions. He never suggest the higher models or up sell that is not asked by the customer. I believe installation is the most important part of this process. He and his team Ronnie, David & Jamie did the great job. I am very happy and satisfied with the results. The crew showed up on time and cleaned up the work area at the end of the day. The crew went above and beyond to make the proper adjustments. Now my new system make our home cozy and relax. I highly recommend Air Performance Heating & Cooling to our friends & families.
I called Air Performance Heating and Cooling LLC during the last heat spell in the Bay Area. John – the owner – gave me a quick appointment. On the day of the appointment, John came by my house way after business hours just to accommodate my work schedule. He spent 2 hours to diagnose and to change the broken AC part (capacitor) at no charge to me. It can’t get any better - quick, friendly knowledgeable service – he will always have my business.
John and his team installed a 2 zone heating and cooling system in our house a few years ago. Our experience was excellent then and remained excellent in our most recent encounter a couple of weeks ago. He and his team are very professional, reliable, responsive and pricing is fair. Can’t really ask for more than that. I liked that there was no feeling of being “sold” or up-selling - a straightforward, informative, honest and transparent interaction. He responded to our recent call immediately and was on site that evening to remedy our issue, problem solved and very much appreciated (especially since we were in the midst of a heat wave and it was a Friday). Customer service is fantastic and I can’t recommend him enough! We’ll continue to go to John for all of our heating and AC needs!
Air Performance put in our system a few years ago. The system has made our home comfortable in the summer and winter thanks to John’s recommendations. Every time I call with any questions John is so helpful. He recently came out and showed me how to clean my filters correctly. I highly recommend Air Performance to anyone who wants an honest local company to install great equipment to keep your home comfortable!
We have turned to John and his team for a few repairs over the years, and most recently for a new AC/furnace install. Here's what I like: - John has just one crew, so his work is consistent and he can keep a close eye on the work. (The bigger businesses have many crews to keep track of and many employees coming and going.) - His crew has good experience and are friendly and professional. - His price for the new system happened to be lowest, apples-to-apples, out of 4 quotes I got. - He has been a local businessman here in San Ramon for several decades. - Most importantly, he did a great job for us on the install. It took a bit longer to get his quote (probably because he doesn't have a dedicated sales crew--has to do it himself, but it was only a few days more and still easy to rate his business 5 stars.
Air Performance installed a new system at our home. They performed the job in a very professional manner. The crew showed up on time and finished the job in the time frame quoted. I was very impressed by the work ethic of the team. The workers were very respectful of our home and yard they cleaned up the work area every day.
John and his team installed my HVAC system over 7 years ago, and it's worked great so far. What's more impressive to me, though, is that on the rare occasions I've had to call with any concerns, he's responded promptly, remembered who I was, come out within a day (even in summer!), explained things thoroughly, and remained as professional and personable as he was when I first decided to give him my business. Highly recommended.
