Vinje & Son Sheet Metal

Well, I came in with a simple request. I asked if they could make a workbench cover out of stainless steel, measuring 8' x 2' with a full length (1") lip in the front.
They said they could. They cut it, bent it and put it out back for me to load. I drove back to NW Vancouver and placed it on my bench. They cut it crooked and not square. The finished top was 24" wide at one end and 22-1/2" on the other end. In addition, the narrower end was not square with the front lip. I called & they said they could make me a new one at no cost, but I would have to return the bad one.
I did & we made the exchange.
The thing that really irks me is that I offered them an extra $20 to make it while I waited, (the first time I was there). The offer was made so I wouldn't have to drive home, then back, then home again. In the end... that's exactly what I had to do, due to their sloppy work. No $20 refund was offered when I returned to pickup the second top.

These folks rock. After having a series of "experts" charge me thousands to not fix my heating problems, I decided to do it myself. I'm a seasoned DIY-er, but not familiar with HVAC. Craig and the others at Vinje/Do-it-yourself were friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and relaxed. They helped me design a solution, provided the gear and info I needed, and quickly answered emails and phone calls when I had a detailed question. They also cheerfully accommodated my special requests. I recommend them highly!

Awesome local shop for DIYer's to get parts and knowledge that cannot be purchased through contractor only HVAC suppliers in area. Got a run capacitor for outdoor compressor unit and had family back in AC in less than 30 minutes.

This is the ONLY place to buy HVAC pieces and fittings. They have virtually every piece you might need on the shelf, and they'll build a custom piece while you wait. Excellent service. It's a one of a kind store.

Yesterday was Thursday and the AC stopped working. Today will be 84, then mid 90s this weekend. Family. On. Edge. With the help YouTube and other sites I was able to diagnose the issue: the capacitor was shot. It was swollen on top like an aluminum can, and there are other symptoms you'll find online. I started calling around Portland this morning at 7:00, but pretty much nobody will sell such parts to end users. I called wholesalers and HVAC shops and nearly all of them recommended VinJe & Sons. For this reason, I was at VinJe & Sons this morning when they opened at 8:00. I told them about my Trane XR13 and its failed GE 97F9899 capacitor (35/5 uf, 50/60Hz, 440VAC in case you need to know) and I had a new one in my hand in 30 seconds. Maybe less time than that. Seriously. I couldn't believe it. So I drove home, slapped it in, and the AC fired right up. I get to be hero for the day. Maybe I can stretch that out for the whole weekend!

The so-so: last night I shopped online and I think they charged me more that I could've found it elsewhere.

If I was willing to sweat it out for a week or two I might have saved twenty bucks. What, are you kidding me!?! Thank you for having great stock, great hours, and being there for fellas like me!

I've been to Vinje & Son twice now, for small jobs. I would definitely see them for any sheet metal work, large or small. These are people who are really present with you and take time to listen, and then respond thoughtfully with just what you need. Excellent local community business.

I went into your shop with a metal kick plate that I purchased on line SOMEWHERE ELSE. It was 3/16 of an inch too wide. I asked if you could trim it for me, and you did very willingly. I tried to pay, and you refused any money. I trie to tip you and you refused. You wouldn't even let me buy you lunch! Being a noob, I asked you what type of screws you would recommend for installation. Again, you were generous with you expertise. Thank you so much! You guys are a class act.

I purchased 4 air scrubbers to get rid of the smoke in our houses after the fires. They worked wonders and Craig was a huge support. My son had already installed a scrubber in his house.
