I'm a retired widow living with one of my grown daughters. Neither one of us really know much about furnaces, so when we were having heating issues with our Bryant at the end of last winter (it was blowing out cold air instead of warm), we called a local heating and air repair service. We were told within about 10-15 minutes that the problem was that the secondary heat exchanger was overheating and turning off, but the air was still blowing so that's why the air was cold. We were told we needed to replace that secondary heat exchanger, which would run us about $3,000 since we bought a top of line model. But the guy recommended to us that we instead just buy a new furnace, but get a more basic model this time, which would "only" cost about $8,000. Not knowing much about the subject, we needed some time to think about what we wanted to do. We took our time since we wouldn't be needing the furnace through the summer months, and talked to my other daughter and her husband, and they said they have a friend with a heating and air repair service and to let them have a look at it. Doug and his assistant drove all the way up from northern Kentucky to our house in central Ohio, and spent several hours testing out the system thoroughly. By the end of the day, they told us we were using the wrong air filter and it wasn't letting enough air through, which would cause the overheating (although it never overheated for them). They recommended buying cheaper air filters with a looser weave. We did what they recommended and here 2 weeks later, the furnace is again working perfectly, just like it should. Something so simple, but we didn't know! Someone with less scruples could have taken advantage of our ignorance and cost us a lot of money! But all it took was 2 guys who actually knew what they were doing and who weren't looking to take advantage of people! I'm so grateful there are still honest people in this world! I had to pay for the long distance service call (which took up their entire day!), but they literally saved me THOUSANDS of dollars! They were so nice, polite and professional, wore their face masks the whole time for our protection, and most importantly, figured out our problem without costing an arm and a leg! I still cannot imagine what the deal was with the first repair service, but I felt completely taken care of with the guys at Comfort Air. Thank you so much for everything!
