Definitely one of those old school hardware stores where you can find that 1 thing you can't find anywhere else. And a friendly and knowledgeable staff , that are almost worth going in for just to shoot the s*it with.

Austin native here. Been frequenting Breed since I was 3 years old and they have helped me with SO many home improvement projects over the years and I have bought an insane number of cards, chocolates, Christmas/birthday presents here. Nothing but good experiences!

Very friendly service. They are helpful & well organized. Also much smaller that the big boss stores which means less time getting lost. Or looking for help they're just right at the counter

If you have questions and want help figuring out what to get, Breed & Company is the place to go. They have the basics as well as more offbeat items; also things a homeowner or renter from the University might want. An ACE hardware store, they can get just about anything you need.
I live in South Austin, but often come here rather than Lowe's or Home Depot because of the service and home-town feel.

I feel like a kid in a candy store in this place. I can always find things for any project, without buying 24 if I only want 2. It's like an old-time hardware store with helpful people and everything you need.

I guess that I should say, more accurately, that my wife loved it. Having collected numerous place settings throughout her life she thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected displays of fine China offered at this Austin hardware store of all places!

I love this place for various reasons. The selection of merchandise in this store is astounding. The employees are always helpful and know where to find what you are looking for. They are also so customer friendly here.

Super helpful. In and out with the things I need in five minutes. No wandering the isles at Home Depot

There is nothing quite like visiting a local hardware store. Most the people that work at Breeds will go out of their way to help or share personal experience on the problem you are trying to resolve. The guys in the hardware area actually build stuff. I always look for Phil. He's my go to guy to get things done. They'll even let you use their workspace in the back if you need to get out of a jam. The big box stores might save you a few bucks but in my opinion it's not always worth it.
