We had a hot water heater go kaput on us overnight, and Eric Kjelshus Energy sent out someone that morning. They were on time, polite, showed us exactly what was happening, informed us of our options, and got the fix done in short order. We also got a good list of recommendations for the future and other maintenance tasks to remember. Nothing but excellent service all around.

Excellent knowledge of EVERYTHING HVAC related. Took out personal time to teach me one on one Manual J Calculations, heat loads and what's needed to pull permits for the city.
Knows it all!!!!

We were in a bit of a pinch when our air conditioning unit went out the same day as my wife's due date! Thankfully the people at Erik Kjelshus Energy Heating and Cooling were a huge blessing to us. Everyone I talked to was kind, personable, and willing to work around the specifics of our situation. By the end of the day they had come and gone, our a/c was running again, and we were much more comfortable. Will definitely use their services again.

I had my HVAC checked because it wasn’t cooling. The tech diagnosed it as a pump failure because it had equalized pressure on both sides of the pump. I had HAHA’s from Gladstone come to check it and they were able to show that the pump was working and that the coolant pressure was low. They diagnosed it as a leak and didn’t try to sell me a whole new unit. HAHA’s used the UV dye but then found that the pump wasn’t working. Eric Kjelshus was 100% correct the first time and replacement was required. Great service, high recommend this local business.

Eric Kjelshus is a very experienced contractor, with a reputation for thorough, quality and affordable work. I have known Eric, personally, for a couple of years now, and I would be more than happy for him to work in my home.

Never use this company! I paid to have 2 visists since my AC stopped working. It took them over 2 weeks for me to talk to someone and get a quote (it was 90 -100 outside). I had to hire another AC comany that could come out ASAP and fix my unit. This company got my ticket order mixed up with another person, and when I finally talked to someone they just wanted to sell me an entire new unit. I had someone else fix my unit for only a few Hundred. Do not use these guys, they never call you back.

Eric Kjelshus personally helped me do a deep energy retrofit of a 1907 bungalow in Manheim Park. It went way beyond installing an HVAC system--he dropped by regularly and shared building science and practical approaches to creating an energy efficient, durable building envelope. He and his team are also very careful and thoughtful with the design and installation of the HVAC system. My installation schedule changed several times, and they were remarkably patient and flexible. They aren't cheap, but you get so much more from them, including an optimized system that will provide comfort and efficiency for many, many years. I give them my highest recommendation.

Eric is an unparalleled expert at diagnosing difficult air flow issues. He has an extraordinarily deep grasp of static pressure diagnostics. Unlike many HVAC technicians who don't take the time to learn building science, he brings a range of testing devices with him on service calls, and actually tests all equipment at length. He is one of the best technical experts in the entire field.

Let's start out on the only positive things I have to say. Eric & JR both seemed nice and did come out on a Sunday, for an additional fee of course, althoug unable to fix my furnace till Monday.
Eric informed me that the inducer motor was bad and possibly the pressure switch as well and that he would have to order the parts and come back on Monday; and that it would be in the 300's to fix the issues.
Being the end of January in Missouri with my funace in pieces, I said ok and went to juggling finances to pay for it, he did nicely agree to hold my check till payday.
Now Monday a lady calls to let me know they will be out at 3pm and its gonna be $350 and I agree.
When JR gets there I notice he is installing the same inducer motor they tool off so I ask about it, since that part is my existing part does that mean it's gonna be less? And he tells me that although he is only replacing the pressure switch and not both parts the cost is still $350.
To make a long story short I pay the man, then look into the cost of the 1 and only part he replaced...the wholesale price is $23 the suggested retail price is $65 so total with $130 service fee should have been $195 heck even $250 would have been feesable MAYBE for 2 trips and when I call him I am told they have overhead and can charge whatever they please and it's standard procedure to charge 4-6 times more then what they pay for the part. Well I tell him 6 times their cost on that part would be $138 and $130 service call would still only be $268 and I feel this is price gouging and unfair and the response was "I do what I want."
I am a single Mom who had to roll over a car payment and rob peter to pay paul for this repair and I am so devastatingly disappointed to realize I was so taken advantage of.

Responding to owner response......
I tried to speak with JR about this over charge on the phone, I uave stated nothing above that isn't factual. I am sorry math doesn't lie sir. As for dust in the furnace, well ofcourse thier was I am not knowledgeable enough to take those things apart and clean them but after Eric took them apart I cleaned them all myself, as for the A coil I watched you clean that and it was barely anything that I noticed but again I don't clean those things as I would have no idea how. To my understanding service charges are for the trip and standard service at the rate of $130 as i was quoted, I would assume heaters are generally dirty inside. As for rebuilding the enducer motor, I was told they greased it....and it was not froze up I watched it spining myself...I paid attention. I honestly am shocked at the response and the verbal response I recieved as well. I truly believe that I was overcharged at the very least $82.
I again state math dosen't lie
$130 + $138 = 268 Not $350 and that's at a 6 times increase of wholesale price on the part as I was told is your standard increase rate.

Eric Kjelshus is the best! He is very knowledgeable and explains what needs to be done in a way that can be understood. He and his crew have gone above and beyond for me on numerous occasions. I highly recommend this company!
