Dan came out to check my HVAC after the deep freeze over Xmas and install thermostat. I was extremely impressed with his professionalism, knowledge and patience while we asked a mirage of questions. We will be using them for a service contract just based on his one visit. No hard sell, just honest clean work and straight up telling us what was going on with unit. Earlier in the day Mr. Shawn Musselman came by to trouble shoot my HVAC unit. I was impressed by his expertise and the way he explained what was wrong with my unit. He is a true professional and his friendly demeanor made it easier to, sadly accept, that I need a new unit. We have been long time clients of Barstow & Sons and will continue to be your client due, not only, to Shawn's excellent service but for the other service people that have fixed our unit in the past.
If your service is anything like how your employees drive it is certainly reckless and of little quality. Someone driving a Barstow and Sons truck took a turn at god knows how fast into a residential street and almost hit my wife and dog, who had to run to get out of his way. Completely unprofessional conduct for someone in a company vehicle. I will certainly never employ your services.
Our furnace stopped working on a Friday in December in cold weather. I called Barstow based on a recommendation from a neighbor and they came out same day. A guy named Sean was our tech and he was awesome. He quickly diagnosed the problem. It required a replacement part. It needed a specific part from Carrier versus a generic part. He went out of his way to drive far to get the specific part because he knew we had small kids and he fixed everything up and if that's not just amazing service than I don't know what is. Definitely recommend you call them!
One of my 16 year old air conditioning units failed in June 2021. I had another local company come out initially to diagnose the issue, but after confirming the unit was shot and getting 5 different quotes for replacement I decided to move forward with Barstow & Sons, as their quote was the cheapest.
The Barstow & Sons rep that inspected my existing system and provided the quote for replacement told me they were booked out about 2 weeks for installs, and that I could get on the schedule as soon as I paid my deposit. I paid my deposit and called to schedule my install the next day. However, after they got my deposit I was told the earliest they'd be able to schedule my install was 4 weeks out due to backordered A/C units from Carrier.
This was extremely frustrating to hear. I called a couple of the other companies I got quotes from and they confirmed that those units were indeed on backorder from Carrier, and that they would not be able to schedule my install any sooner. Interesting that none of these companies opted to share this information with me before I put down a deposit. Anyway, I decided to stick with Barstow & Sons.
Three weeks later (5 days before my scheduled install), Barstow & Sons called to inform me that my unit was still on backorder and that they would not be able to proceed with my install on the scheduled date unless I went with a different A/C unit. They offered me a free upgrade to a more efficient unit, which I accepted.
Four younger gentlemen arrived at 7AM sharp on the day of my install. They laid heavy duty drop cloths throughout the areas in my home where they were working. The job took about 6 hours total. When it was done, they cleaned up after themselves and allowed me to inspect the finished product and ask questions.
At the end of the day, I was very happy with their work. The miscommunication regarding scheduling was annoying, but they made up for it with the free upgrade. It would have been nice to know about the backordered units upfront, but it's not their fault that products are taking longer to get due to pandemic-related supply chain issues.
Barstow and Sons did a great job from getting an intital estimate, exploring all the options and responding to lots of questions and finally a great installation. The installers were great too!! The Lennox mini-split is very quiet and looks great.
Barstow and Sons will be my new HVAC company when I need something with my system. They are responsive, professional, and honest people, and their costs are reasonable. One company quoted me nearly $3,000 to address issues that weren’t the appropriate diagnoses for my system, and that company was trying to do things I’ve since found out are misleading and very costly. Barstow, on the other hand, properly handled and fixed my system quickly and for a good price. Call Barstow for future HVAC needs.
They came out about 45 miles to install two AC units for $11,000 three years ago. Asked them to come service them for this summer and they said, "Too far. Best you get someone local to service them. We charge $150 "travel fee," and $85 an hour. Minimum 2 hour job." No Go on Barstow. 👎
I called 5 HVAC companies tonight for an emergency. It was 88 degrees in my house when I got home on a Saturday night. No one called back and if they did they couldn't come out. Shawn from Barstow & Sons was the only one to returned my call and come out. He was polite and on time. He showed up and had the AC cranking cold air in 30 mins. Super professional. There are not to many techs who will come out late on Saturday and knock it out of the park. Shawn deserves a raise!!! I recommend this company 100%
