    Oehl came to our house March 1, 2020 to look at a problem with our fireplace. They charged us $149 and said they would have to order a part. They came back on March 30 with the new part and charged an additional $529. We didn't use the fireplace much until this November. By December, it was showing the same problem with which we originally called Oehl. We were just told that they would charge another service call to check out the problem and that the part was only warranted for 1 month. What a waste of nearly $700! I will NOT recommend this company to anyone.

    We had an issue with our AC unit on a hot Friday night. By the morning it was 85 degrees in our apartment and we were worried no one would be able to fix it until Monday. Our landlord reached out to Oehl Plumbing, and Zach was able to help out immediately getting our AC running again. He was very professional and informative! 10/10 would recommend! Thanks Zach!

    Nice gentlemen that did the service. However, I paid for them to clean and service my furnace and two gas fireplaces. They never even turned the fireplaces on and the furnace is now making a noise it didn't before. I was not confident they were as I knowledgeable as I would hope. In addition they did not let us know which half of the day they would be coming and I had to call twice to get the service scheduled.

    customer service was above and beyond Expectations. I contacted the owner on a Saturday Evening hoping for a quick fix over the phone. We were beyond the quick fix. I advised I would call and make an appointment for service Monday morning. I called Monday morning at 8AM. The person that answered phone asked for my name and advised me I was on the schedule already (awesome), she also advised that the Technician was in route to my house. Before I got off the phone The Tech was at my door. That is customer service. I would recommend their services to anyone. Thank you.

    This company was amazing! We called them in the morning and by noon they had the problems with our AC fixed! They have fast, friendly service, were very communicative, and the man who came in our home wore a mask and was kind to my toddler who kept following him around. I couldn't recommend them more!

    My wife and I called Oehl to come look at our water heater that wasn't working. When the tech arrived he said it would probably need replaced and I told him to let me know what he figures out on it. A hour and a half later the tech knocks on my door and hands me a bill for $1300.. no explanation on what the issue was with the old one and why it can't be repaired, no estimate, no options, no confirmation from me to replace the old one with a new water heater. We chose this company because their website says they offer estimates and service all brands so you can get "best bang for your buck." Nothing was discussed and we ended up with a new $890 water heater installed without our go ahead. No options or more affordable brands were discussed prior to the install. My wife and I own a 900 Sq ft condo and are selling soon, I certainly wouldn't have put a near $900 dollar water heater in when I could have purchased a $450 one from lowes and had a plumber install it. When I called about the bill I was told that type of heater is the standard one they install in homes and they would take $200 off the bill. My wife and I are very displeased with the communication and service and would not use this company again. I would never expect to take my car to a mechanic for a rattling noise and have them hand me a bill for a new engine they installed without discussing repairs prior... same concept

    During the recent freeze, our furnace stopped giving heat, although the fan worked. They showed up, and diagnosed the problem which was NOT with the furnace, but with the way the townhouse is built, with the exhaust pipe on the roof allowing some moisture in, which froze up, causing the heat valve to stick. They climbed into the attic, and did what they needed to do to loosen what was frozen, It took several hours to work through all the things that it could have been inside the furnace. It takes a lot of experience to trace a problem so far from where the problem seems to be, and to then fix that. On top of it, the bill was incredibly reasonable. When you're up against it, as we were, with the temp in house plummeting, it's good to know where to find these guys. We bought the furnace from them six years ago, and would do that again too.

    My water heater was leaking and I contacted Mike and his team by 7 am. They were there and got it changed out by noon. There was fast, accurate and constant communication on their arrival time so I could plan around my schedule. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Thank you Oehl Plumbing and Heating!!

    I already knew our system was getting old and will need replacing. Then I just wanted it fixed for the short term and kept getting warned it was going to cost a lot. Even before he knew what was really wrong. Guess what, it cost a lot. Fine but he left me saying he didn’t know if the heat will work or not but AC is back working. Great, I guess we will find out come fall if we don’t schedule a replacement system that he said could be 15 or 20k. Sounds excessive but something we would like to plan for. So our AC system is working and maybe our heat will come on when we need it. Great and did I mention it cost just what he was predicting, before he even knew what was wrong. Nice they sent someone the next day but I will try another place next time, probably when my heat doesn’t come on this fall. Well here we are 9/29 and the first cold snap. Tried my heater and guess what?? It did not work. My fault for not checking right after the AC was fixed and the Technician said "I don't know if the heat will work or not." He said this as he was leaving, again reminding me that our system was old and needed to be replaced. Well, Davis Heating and Cooling of Iowa City just left and the heat is back on. Seems that a wire that would turn the heater on was missing. Imagine that! How in the world would that short piece of wire just get up and walk away? The wire was replaced and the Davis guy actually checked the heat ex-changer and for CO2, didn't just speculate because it was an old system. I always recommend getting second opinions, so if you still use Oehl, I highly recommend a second opinion before you replace anything.

    Beware. Not very upfront about what services are gonna cost. Weekend call cost $127 service call and then another $127 labor charge For a total bill of $272 with no parts involved. Not bad for one hours worth of work. One week later needed another service call on a weekend but used a different company. They replaced the igniter in the furnace and where they're about the same amount of time and charges only $125. I will never use their services again.

    The tech was not up front about the cost When I call he never rates. He never mentioned anything about a service call in addition to an hourly rate. The only thing that the Tech cleaned my furnace was putting his mouth on one of the tubes and blowing on it. I watched him the whole time. Nothing else was cleaned. Upon leaving I asked him what the bill would be and he stated it should not be more than $200 but he did not want to give me an invoice when I requested one. He said he would mail it.... I should have been suspicious then. Good thing I watch him if it happens again I will be able to fix it myself. It will be the easiest $272 I will ever not make. Live and learn. Doesn't look like I am the only one that complains about share billing practices either.
