I have experienced serious & unresolved issues over the past 7 months with the faulty furnace installed by Mike Gunderson of Compass Heating and A/C. (referred to M.G. here forward.) On 12/1/20, I needed to replace a 29 year old furnace. I had a quote from a Co. for a Lenox furnace. I was then listed on HomeAdvisor.com. M. G. called me that night. He said he would beat the price by $800 for only $4988, w/o even knowing the 1st estimate. 12/2/20 Brien came out and tried to pressure me into adding an A/C unit for $2000 less the total cost of only $10,000. Now it was a "bait & switch" for a Daikin which I never heard of before. We are 83 and 90 years old and dealing w/ their rude, condescending & unprofessional treatment. On 12/3/20, I had them install just the furnace, a Daikin. After 3 hours of sleep that night, I awoke w/ sneezing, coughing, swollen, itchy eyes & difficulty breathing. I called M G. and requested the furnace be removed and be refunded. The next night I awoke w/ a severe nose bleed. I never before have had nose bleeds. Irritants are coming through the ducts from the furnace every night. I am a Registered Nurse & know true medical issues. Brien came back out & said nothing was wrong & it must be the house. We have lived here over 53 years w/ no problems before. M. G. said lots of people get nose bleeds. M. G. came out and said it must be issues w/ the 29 year old duct work. It was suggested duct work must be cleaned and/or replaced. He recommended the company Airroot to clean the ducts, which they did for $555. M.G. then replaced other duct work for $875. After 3 months of us enduring sleep & oxygen deprivation due to irritants because of this furnace not being removed. I ended up at the Cardiologist. I had my 1st ever abnormal EKG. The Dr. said I had to remove this irritant asap or it could cause us a heart attack or stroke. 5/1-2/21 the temperature was in the 80's. The thermostat was not working as set and the motor was extremely loud. Brien came out 5/5/21 & again said the thermostat was fine. I still never was provided the serial & model #'s for the Daikin furnace or the 2 invoices . Brien called the office & they were to email me the info. I have never received the requested info or contact from M.G.. On 5/16/21, I wrote M. G. to once again ask for the furnace to be removed and refunded. I again said the thermostat was still not working, now the temperature is in the 90's, I still have not received the serial & model #'s and the final invoices for the installation or duct work. After no response, on 5/25/21 I called M.G. to ask if he received my letter. He said he had not. I let him know the letter's contents & wanting the faulty furnace removed & be refunded. I told him I would have to contact the Atty. General's Office and BBB to receive my refund. He angrily said " I am not taking this lying down and I am NOT sending you anything!" & hung up on me. He is a bully to the elderly. 6/4/21, I received my letter back as "undeliverable, wrong address". The address on his contract was incorrect. I again called M.G. to get the correct address. I re-sent the original letter w/ an additional letter stressing needing removal of the furnace and refund. To date I have had NO response. I have no proof this is a new & working furnace. 6/23/21, I paid another company $95 to go up in the attic & give me the serial & model #'s of the furnace. I plan to be refunded my $4988 to have a new, working & safe furnace installed asap. We are in the heat of summer w/ no working thermostat or system. The system would not shut off and then must have overheated as it no longer works. It may now be a fire hazard as well. However, the irritants from the furnace 12/3/20 until it completely stopped working 6/26/21, are no longer present. I am now forced to contact every applicable agency in Illinois to assist me in getting my refund of $4988 so I may install a working and safe furnace. This is the most unprofessional business I have ever dealt with and I myself had a business for over 40 years
We purchased a new AC and furnace and we couldn't be happier with our experience. Our initial appointment with Russ was very informative and he was very patient and responsive with our additional questions as we made our decision. Tom was our lead installer and he is clearly a master of his craft. I never thought I'd be impressed at the way a furnace looks, but I am! He also took plenty of time to ensure we understood how everything operates and assured us that we are welcome to call anytime with further questions. We plan to stay in our home for a long time, but should that change and we find ourselves in need of a new HVAC system, we'll be coming back to Compass.
We now have 2 great HVAC systems running in our home. Both have been installed by Compass! Most recently we had a Mitsubusi ductless system installed for the room additions. The addition was completed in late October and we could not be more pleased. The unit allows us to control the temp in each room individually. It runs silently and there is virtually no dust. Mike and his crew are wonderful. They love what they do and believe in what they sell and service. In today's world of over promise and under deliver these guys raise the bar for delivering exactly what is promised. Add to that outstanding customer service and you can't go wrong. We will be customers for life!
Nice and prompt service. Mike explained and showed what needed to be done and had everything up and running in no time. Very happy customer right here and will recommend to all of my peeps! Thank you Mike!
Mike installed a multi-zone Mitsubishi Hyper Heat heat pump system for my new build Passive House. He was dependable, did quality work, and when an issue came up later he had the integrity to address it when most other contractors would've chosen to just disappear. Highly recommend, and a pleasure to have on the job site.

Compass does excellent work at a fair price. Their technicians and service people are highly skilled. We have not been disappointed in over 7 years of doing business with Compass Heating and Air.
Cannot say enough about their professionalism and attention to detail. Mike has extensive knowledge of the HVAC business, and the products he installs. He gave me options, and explained each one and let me decide- he did not push me to make a choice. The installation went great- even with a hiccup, Mike and his crew got it done quickly and it looks great! Would definitely recommend them to anyone.
My wife was very happy with the profesionalizm for the PM on our 95% furnace. A maintenance agreement was offered which pleased me. The Tech did all of the items I would have done for a PM. This senior citizen does not do HVAC work anymore.
Tom was very professional and friendly. He did top notch work setting up my equipment. I couldn't be happier with the service provided by him and Compass Heating and Air Conditioning. I also got a chance to talk to Russ and another gentlemen of whom I don't remember his name (sorry). Thanks again. Would definitely recommend!!!
Their service, installation and knowledge of Mitsubishi mini split systems is top notch. Their technicians are friendly and always left the house cleaner then when they came. I would highly recommend hiring Compass Heating and Air if you are planning on getting a new Mini Split system.
