If I could give this company zero stars I would! I have a new home, 4 years old and the A/C was not coming on. Bertie is the company who installed the A/C in our home and in the other homes in the neighborhood (who are also having problems might I add). I called them and long story short, they "fixed" my A/C on a Friday afternoon. By the time I got home at 6pm it was no longer working again. I called them and they said they would have to charge me an on call fee at this point. So, then they came back out on the next day, Saturday, and claimed I then needed a new part, which they didn't know about the prior day...? Then, they came that Monday, 2 days later, to "fix it" and to add the part (which was under warranty) They then 'fixed' it and charged me nearly $600. The next day the A/C wouldn't come on again. I called them and spoke with a "secretary" and was told the owner would call me. A MONTH AND A HALF LATER, after several calls, I finally got in touch with someone once i put a hold on the check I gave them. They offered to send someone out, again, but of course for a $95 fee which doesn't include whatever problem it may be. I said no thank you. They never fixed it in the first place. So, then they wanted the $600 they charged me to NOT FIX MY A/C! Furious is an understatement. I agreed to pay them half, which is a whole lot of nothing! BEWARE!!!

Initially I was not going to write this review, but my experience with the owner operator yesterday has made me aware that I really need to make others aware that this is a company to avoid at all cost, and here’s why. A five year old TRANE A/C, that Bertie installed, went dead at my mothers home. She is 86 years old. I called Bertie to come out and look at it. I met the technician out there. He said he replaced a blown fuse, but would have to order a board to fix the problem and the fuse would probably blow again which it did very soon after he left. The board came in, he replaced the part, and gave us a bill for parts and labor. The system went dead right after he left. He came back and said he had replaced a bad section of thermostat wire, but the system went dead again shortly after he left. So they sent a different guy. This guy said he found a bad coil and he would have to order it. The part came in, he installed it, charged us parts and labor on a third time call back for the exact same failure, and the system went dead again shortly after he left in the exact same fashion that it had the previous times. So they sent a THIRD guy! This guy found that the thermostat wire was shorting and had damaged another board. When the part came in I was not able to meet them at the house this time because I had a work conflict. Ends up they sent TWO guys out to the house to install a board and run thermostat wire! The wire runs across an attic with a high pitch roof, through the soffit, and along the line set which is out in the open all the way to the compressor. If they want to send two or even ten guys to do a one man job that is their prerogative, but they don’t get to charge us for extra guys, which they did. Then they charged us for the board that FINALLY appears to have fixed the problem, as well as $740 for 80 ft of thermostat wire! I took the part number off of the wire they used and had several parts houses around town cross it to the product they sell. 250ft of the exact same wire costs from $50 to $70!!! So what would you do in my situation? We were charged for each of four call backs that were for the same problem, charged for two guys to do a one man job, and charged $740 for roughly $20 of wire! I hope I have already convinced you to take your business elsewhere because here is the really bad part! After over a week of trying to contact Jim, who I thought was still the owner, I got a response from him. He said he had retired, but he called the office and told them to refund my money and for me to take my business elsewhere in future. So I went into the office to get the final invoice and I was confronted by Mrs. Bertie, who apparently is now the owner/operator. She takes criticism of what her employees have done in the field as a personal insult, instead of realizing that there is a problem and fixing it. She was EXTREAMLY hostile, insulting, and unprofessional. When I asked her how she justified charging my Mother $720 for roughly $20 worth of thermostat wire, she slapped the bill the counter and said, “That’s my price, pay it, and get off my property before I call the police, or I will see you in court”. Needless to say, I’m taking option 2.

During his visit, I researched the filter replacement cost on Google and found it to be the competitive cost.

Bertie Heating and Air is our go to company for our home and business. Sometimes is can be scary to have strangers in your home but I always feel safe with Bertie. The staff is always friendly and explained everything that needed to be fixed. They also got to the house extremely fast!

We've used Bertie Heating and Air since we bought our home almost 2 years ago. The previous owners used Bertie and recommended them highly. They are thorough, honest, fair, and i would recommend them to anyone as well. The unit in the home was 20+ years old ( a Trane) when we bought the home. We knew we would be replacing the unit eventually. During our PMs, we would cross our fingers that it might go another 6 months. It did until May, and then it was more cost effective to replace the unit, and the really aged ductwork as well. They did the job for us and they managed everything from beginning to end so professionally, and even were finished before they anticipated. I feel very confident that this new Trane will perform as well or better than the older unit. So far, it has been running perfectly!

GREAT SERVICE. Called this morning because of no heat. Chilly night. Very friendly and helpful receptionist said she would get someone out right away. The tech, Oscar, was at my door within the hour. Professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. He had my problem diagnosed quickly, had the part and fixed my unit right away. I will be a customer for life.

6/28/2017 Just replaced our 12 yr old AC system with a new "16 Seer" Trane unit from Bertie AC. Everywhere I looked, their reviews were positive. Our installers, T.J. and Eric, showed up right on time, and did a fantastic job. It doesn't take long to realize that few installations can possibly be the same. For them, nothing about our attic install fazed them. It was hot, cramped and plain nasty (on a 90 degree day). Yet, their workmanship was top-knotch, they were polite, and truly assets to the company. In fact, everyone at Bertie was great! Our old unit seemed to run all the time. With the new, more efficient Trane, our home stays cooler and the AC runs so much less!

Great service and quality work. I recently had duct work replaced by Matt F due to animals getting under my house. My house is now cooling and is animal free. Thanks to Bertie Heating and Air for working around my busy schedule and getting it done!
