Adjusting review after final inspection to reflect that after failing the first inspection for incorrect slope on the exhaust piping Lakeside sent out someone who refused to listen to my wife explain the exact feedback the inspector gave and did not correct the problem. I was tired of people coming in and out of my house during a pandemic so I took the 15 minutes needed to correct the actual problem so that we could pass the scheduled inspection.

I first met Tony Buras, one of the owners at Lakeside Heating and Air Conditioning (Lakeside) about 5 years ago when he came out to breathe life back into my 17-year-old 5-ton AC. He was able to get it back up and running and indicated the fix would be good for about 1-2 years, but the unit was getting old and I should start looking around for a replacement. Anyway, 5 years later, it finally gave up the ghost and I am in the buying a new furnace and AC mode.

As with all large cost outlays, I like to get competitive bids. Based on experience, I asked for a bid from Lakeside, as well as 9 other local providers.

Tony Buras listened to my requirements. This also involved integrating to an existing home automation system; I wanted to pick a system that would integrate with existing as well as allowing me to grow the existing system (geo fencing, positional zoning, etc). Tony was the only provider that validated the system choices would match my existing and updated automation equipment. Nice! This is important for me as I don’t want to lock myself into automation products that are too proprietary like Nest or Ecobee for example.

Tony provided estimates in excruciating detail. There was only one other provider that came close in the level of detail provided; the rest, including the largest in the area, were poorly formatted, hand written, and lacked detail (if you could read them!!).

Tony was also keen to earn my business. He kept in touch; he wanted to compete on any quotes given me; and provided updated quotes quickly. What was a challenge for me was finding quotes that were in detail enough when I felt I was giving Tony a fair chance to compete. This eventually took the quoting process out 3 weeks before I made my final commitment.

After much back and forth, Lakeside were chosen. Based on the quotes, I should have known the installation process would be just as good and I was not disappointed. Installation was scheduled for 2 days this week and was completed on time.

2. Sales process that talked about solutions, not selling equipment
3. Sales process that talked about my unique needs (home automation) and then adjusted solutions to match.
4. Always willing to quickly give an updated quote within a day based on questions and discussions
5. Patience with the customer
6. Always willing to match a competitor quote
7. Installers (Mick and Jon) called ahead and arrived on time
8. We also received a visit from a third-party electrical contractor Over-All Electric who reviewed the install, updated the breakers (due to improved efficiency unit) and provided a customer friendly experience. It’s obvious that Lakeside and Over-All have built a good working relationship
9. Mick and Jon put down floor coverings, kept the work area clean and cleaned up every day before leaving
10. Mick and Jon listened to my questions
11. In cases when issues arose with the install, both Mick and Jon would talk about options, listen to any questions and would work with customer on the solution, rather than just jumping ahead and assuming it would be OK
12. Closed any windows and locked doors each day, as work completed

I am now the proud owner of a new furnace and AC which combined, are a great combination of performance, efficiency and quiet running. Now if I can just keep the lower furnace and AC going a little longer … either way, I know who I’ll be calling.
