Furnace tech Joseph Morataya was professional and thorough.
Repairs were done quickly.
Service is courteous, friendly, competent. Ever since installation 7 years ago each inspection has found something they recommended we repair or add BUT system has worked perfectly in hot and cold seasons and never failed. I trust their service and advice explicitly.

From the moment I made my call to Big Mountain requesting inspection of my old heater and a/c, to completion of a new system installation (heater, a/c and Bluetooth thermostat), every Big Mountain employee has met every expectation. There has been absolutely nothing about any of them that has missed the mark. In my personal exchanges with Joseph, Brad and Christian, I found they brought even more to their positions, a very human interaction, making the entire process a much more enjoyable experience than dealings with other companies. As a result, I look forward to a lifelong relationship with Big Mountain Heating & Air.

Austin made some very good observations with suggestions that applied to the observations... these were item I do need to consider so I appreciate his host and open explanation for his recommendations.

UPDATE:

The word for this update is accountability.

Shortly after posting the review (that I didn't even think anyone would see), I was contacted by our design consultant, Johnny. I wasn't able to answer, but he left a message letting us know that, internally, the project had been reviewed and he wanted a chance to make things right. After speaking with my husband, we got back to Johnny and scheduled a meeting for later that afternoon.

He came to our home, listened to our problems, validated our feelings, and assured us that, if given a chance, they'd make things right. We went through our grievances so that the situation(s) could be used as training opportunities and he took full responsibility. Respect!

Big Mountain didn't have to reach out and contact us. They didn't have to try to rectify anything. But they did. At the end of the meeting, my husband and I felt heard and we were comfortable with the plan set in place going forward.

Thank you Johnny, Gabby, Edwin, Armando, and Leo.

In the beginning, Big Mountain was great. They were responsive and genuinely seemed to have our best interest at heart. The tech came out, did a diagnostic on our older unit, and made recommendations based on his findings. He recommended that our 18 year old unit be replaced and also indicated that ductwork needed to be done. Because we have a newborn, we were willing to do the work so that we'd all be comfortable and have good air quality for the years to come. A design consultant was booked for later the same night and we got the ball rolling (they reel you in quick!)

The design consultant was also pretty cool. He was personable and listened to our needs and budget. We decided to follow through and the install was booked for two days later.

Here's where things start going downhill... $20k later.

The same day that the unit was installed, the Nest displayed an error message. We sent the error message and a tech was dispatched out. The install guys failed to drain a pipe and a safety feature was being triggered to cut power.

The following night, we were awoken by the newly installed smoke alarm around midnight. There was a burning smell coming from the furnace closet. We called Big Mountain the next morning and a tech came out to assess the issue. He wasn't able to find anything.

A week later, the outdoor unit started making noise. Now, they didn't work on this unit originally per se, but they obviously had their hand in there to complete the work for the indoor unit. A tech came out and very matter of factly stated what the problem was. He'd already ran the numbers and had information on payments before even telling me what the problem was. Another $2800 to repair or $7000 to replace. This unit is 4 years old. I contacted the manufacturer and it was still under warranty, so we declined Big Mountain's services.

The day after they left, the outdoor compressor unit's fan was no longer spinning. Remember, the tech was out there the day before. Coincidence? Maybe. We'd never had any issues before.

Decided to get a second opinion and come to find out, a wire in the INDOOR unit wasn't properly nestled where it needed to be so it wasn't communicating with the outdoor unit.

The part that the tech said needed to be replaced isn't even used for the heater. Only the AC. There's atmospheric rivers happening every week in Sac. We definitely hadn't been using the AC.

All this to say... they're very friendly and personable. However, I now have major used car salesman vibes and feel like I was duped by sleeze balls trying to make a/another sale.

Fool me once, shame on me. Definitely won't get another chance though. Proceed with caution.
