Malaysian-Singaporean restaurants tend to drop like flies in this part of the world, so enjoy Taste of Sing-Ma while it pleasantly exists! The food here is authentic and Penang-centric (which is always a good thing), while the service is good. I tried the assam laksa (as a baseline) my first time there and it was spot on. The prices are definitely reasonable; we don't even mind frequently driving here from Hayward to enjoy some delicious fodder.

Love this restaurant! I'd definitely recommend getting the roti as an appetizer, or for your entire meal :) the curry laksa mee is also worth ordering, as is the basil eggplant, nasi lemak, sizzling beef, seasonal vegetables. the mango sticky rice as dessert is also really good! Service is good, with attentive servers.

I've been here twice because the first experience was great!

I highly recommend the Rendang Beef lunch option as well as the pan fried Pomfret (fish).

The Rendang Beef is savory, the fish bits adds salty and sweet, and the egg is...egg. Altogether, the meal is simple and delicious.

On my second visit, with coworkers, everyone enjoyed their meals. The lunch menu options look pretty decent including vegetarian options.

Decor is nice and brings a somewhat fancy feel to it. Next door is the local brewery. Service is fast and friendly.

I can't wait to come by and try the other items on the menu!

My wife and I visited for lunch and our food was excellent. The service, although friendly, was sub-par.

It was memorial day and not very busy though most diners were inside (it was 90 degrees outside). We requested a table outside and were seated right away. Our waitress lacked menu knowledge and it was difficult to communicate with at her. One of the specials, lettuce cups, were offered in three varieties, beef, chicken, or vegetable. I asked if we could have an order of the lettuce cups and that we would like to try all the varieties if the kitchen would do that but if they wouldn't, we would just have beef. She said she'd check and started to walk away but I called her back and said that there was no need to check... If they chef said we couldn't mix-and-match, she should just order us beef. She went away to check anyway. She came back and told us that for $1 more we could mix everything together, including seafood, but I couldn't tell if she were offering us beef cups, chicken cups, and vegetable cups (I guess with seafood), or if she were offering us beef, chicken, seafood, and vegetable cups. It was getting too complicated so I asked her to just give us the beef cups, to which she replied that they only had chicken and seafood (seems the whole thing could have been avoided if she had told me that with my original beef request.).. Again, she was not in any way trying to be unfriendly, it was just "difficult" to deal with her. I'm quite comfortable around different languages but this was particularly trying.

So we ordered. Rendang Beef for me, Chicken Lettuce Cups for my wife, and Pineapple Rice to share. Around 10 minutes later she came out with my bowl of rendang beef. I stared longingly at it, anxiously awaiting my wife's order so I could eat. A couple minutes later the Pineapple rice came, served in a horizontal half of a pineapple. At least I could graciously eat my rendang now. I was NOT disappointed in either dish. The Rendang, which was quite different than what I had eaten on dozens of occasions in Sydney, was still delicious. The Pineapple rice, although decadent, is also phenomenal. Cut to 20 minutes later, the waitress is asking us again if we're enjoying our food, to which I reply, "so far so good." She cocks her head slightly and I wonder if she just figured out that she never brought out our Lettuce cups. She didn't. The next waitress came by and I flagged her and let her know that all of the plates could be cleared and that we were still waiting for the lettuce cups. We were both full and would typically have just requested the check and told them to keep the cups for themselves, but the food was so good, and the company was excellent, so we decided we wanted to try this third dish anyway. They came out a couple minutes later and were also excellent, in taste AND presentation.

The check had pre-printed tip suggestions of 18%, 20%, and 25% which I"m a bit put off by.

Lackluster service notwithstanding, we will DEFINITELY be back.. The food was exceptional and the prices maybe a touch high for lunch, but pretty reasonable. Hopefully the service errors were an anomaly but they truly were friendly and maybe two of the three waitresses we saw were new and not used to the restaurant.

I will upgrade this to 5 stars if I get better service on my next visit and the food is of the same quality.

Ordered the following:
Otak Otak... Awesome.
Taro bowl with veggies... Taro was great, veggie was average
Mee goreng... Noodles were average, mostly sweet and not enough spice, calamari and shrimp had no flavor and weird texture
Hainan chicken rice.. OK, have had better

So hit and miss, but generally OK and service as attentive and friendly.

Two and a half hours in to my road trip down to LA (yes, it did, in fact, take me over two hours to get out of the city that day), exhausted and hungry, my friend and I decided to eat before heading any further away from civilization, unable to await the In n Out down in Kettleman City.

So, we stop by Taste of Sing Ma on our way through the East Bay, ordering their Nasi Lemak Rendang Beef. Not having had much authentic Singaporean or Malaysian food before, I have nothing to compare to, but I was neither impressed nor disappointed by the dish - much in the same way I would feel about, say, most Chinese food. The only real disappointment was that my food was served lukewarm, and even slightly chilled in some parts, though the fact that we ordered it to-go may have contributed to this problem.

If I were in the area again, I might be willing to give them another try, but it's certainly not something I'd trek out for!

Venue - A rather spacious restaurant, with plenty of accessible seating.

Bathroom - Not a problem at all, and also accessible.

Each of the six dishes we ordered fell victim to either stale oil (Roti Plata/fried pancakes) for frying or lackluster flavors (Indian Mee Goreng/fried noodles). The breading on the fried calamari was much too thick and not crispy enough. Also, the fried eggplant was too mushy. While the food may not have been tasty, the service was good -the waitress checked up on us often, and the food came out fast.

It taste decent. Service is good. I'm not sure about quality of food as I have had some hit and miss experiences. Overall it's okay for quick bite if you're in the area. A little bit more than I would like to spend for what you get.

Yummy Malaysian and Singapore food! We had the Wah Dan Ho and it was super yummy. We also ordered Malaysian style braised tofu and that was really good too.
